Freakin Chris Sale to dominate AL East best

Just like the Sox have to play out their own meaningless schedule, so must the Game Threads be 162 or we would be not good fans

Certainly sorry to hear about the health concerns for Wakefield. I know many here didn't care for his efforts on broadcasts, but i for one appreciated his efforts on the mound for many years in a Sox uniform. Good luck to him to get cured.

Thanks Chris for grooving a fastball down the middle.

Wake is a class act and I wish him the best.

Martin on IL, and done for the rest of the season with viral infection. Steady Eddie he was.

Maybe the best Sox relief season since Uehara.

A truly disgusting baseball team. Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Like I wrote a night or two ago, memo to Red Sox, if you hit the ball with a guy on third, maybe something good will happen.

So the shutouts continue---now at 16 innings without 1 f'ing run. Yet another wasted excellent start by the much maligned Red Sox starters

Illinois had it right in yesterday's thread. This team quit on themselves and more importantly the FO after the deadline . Kenley's comments should wake someone up. The current group can be referred to as losers without being hyperbolic.

Having said that, the Sox will come back to win this one and postpone the O's celebration.

You know a team is bad when their best player is a set up relief pitcher.

Actually, I said they quit when the FO quit on them.

They were 2 out when Bloom decided to do nothing, even though guys like Jansen (who knows a thing or 2 about being on a winning club) and Devers were begging for another starter or 2.

Does it matter?

Only to the extent that the same non-performers will show up in Ft. Myers in February saying the same old things---we need to be better, I need to work on ...., this is a good team , etc, etc.

Rafaela is swinging at a lot of pitches out of the zone, which was the knock on him in the minors.

'68 Cubs and a Philadelphia A team have both racked up 48 consecutive scoreless innings, so even if Boston is shutout in the remaining 3 games , they cannot reach any record territory . Why does it matter---because if this group doesn't have enough self pride for just one of them to hit a HR , they all should be remembered as inept ass clowns

Devers protects the streak now at 18 innings .

Devers on 98 RBIs, now has no RBIs in his last 8 games.

It now looks possible he won’t get to 100 RBIs.

The team has stopped getting on base, so it's a real possibility.

Currently, Devers ranks 17th in MLB RBIs at 98.

It's interesting to note 3 ahead of him:

6. Betts 106

13. Schwarber 101

15. JD M 100

(Turner is at #21 with 96.)

That’s one way of looking at it, but the 2019 team started out with a similar length trip west and never really recovered from a horrific start.

I can see starting with a 6 game trip, but 10 is kind of ridiculous, especially with the new "balanced" schedule.

Anyone else catch the reference by the broadcasters to the Rays celebrating “clinching” their playoff spot in Boston after Wednesday’s game when in reality they clinched a week earlier?

IMO, very low class and I think done on purpose.

Contrast that with the O’s last night. The reaction to clinching the division on the field was pretty subdued, especially when you consider they are so young and lost 110 games just two years ago. I’m sure the clubhouse was a little more raucous. Congrats to them; it’s a heck of a story.

2019 was the year the Sox went easy on the starters in spring training under the assumption they were overused in the 2018 postseason and had insufficient time to recover. On that 11 game road trip the Sox have up 12, 6, 6, 10, 7, 1 (a loss), 3, 7, 15, 5, and 0 runs.

It is indeed. My son is an Orioles fan largely because we lived in W. Springfield, VA, 1981-84, when the Orioles were pretty good. Same thing happened to me at the same age, 14, when we lived in W. Springfield, MA and I listened to Curt Gowdy call the Sox games.

But one cannot ignore Raffi's leadership qualities. Of course, I'm kidding.

Weren't you the one screaming for the Sox to play the young guys in September? Last night's lineup included Rafaela (23), Abreu (24), Valdez (24), Dalbec (28), Wong (27), and Devers (26). Devers, Story, and Wong had the Sox 3 hits, all singles.
