Ceddanne might be a 2 WAR player with it all coming from his defense and that's fine but he's not better than Casas and Devers, or Story if healthy.

Who is saying that he's better than those guys?

Did I say in the middle of next year? I meant to say this year.

Look at my tag line below. I would like to DOUBLE DOWN ON THIS!!! I predict one of the reasons Bloom is fired is because Henry wants big moves now and he knows Bloom is not the guy.

Just like DD replaced Ben to make the moves that needed to be made so too with his successor....or not.

And the winner is September 14, 2023.

Moon I normally agree with you than most posters in here but I just can't see this at all.

Wong is a plus defender behind the dish and McGuire historically was until a down year although he looks like he's found his own form recently. Wong/McGuire is fine. Casas has literally been one of the most elite hitters in all of baseball for the past 3 months, 2B/SS isn't as defensible but they've also been riddled by unprecedented injury. With Story and Reyes back and Urias under contract for the next two years it's at the very least as deep as the OF, and you literally have Rafael Devers at 3B.

How many MLB at bats does Abreu and Rafeala have? penciling them in as anything right now is just irresponsible. Ceddanne might be a 2 WAR player with it all coming from his defense and that's fine but he's not better than Casas and Devers, or Story if healthy. Abreu hasn't proven to me he's more than a 4th of/platoon-type.

Again, I'm not deciding between the two, if you want to ask me the hypothetical gun to the head I'd respond by saying that this is a PERFECT example of why my opinion that this is why we BUY starting pitching now makes all the sense in the world. We have the money, we have the cap space, and it's the most robust area of 2024 free agency. It would be bonkers to not do so.

You need two catchers, so to me catcher depth is really about a third one. I should have said that.

Our MI depth was exposed, this year, and next year we have no Kike. Yang might stick around, but DHam is not good depth and mayer is too far away.

Yes, rafaela and Abreu are not "proven," but to me, they look like better depth than DHam, Yang, Dalbec and Caleb hamilton.

We are close to having Tell and mayer and maybe Yorke ML ready, but they are not for the start of 2024.

OF:

Dugo, Duran, Yoshi, Ref, Rafaela, Abreu (Rosier/Reyes)

MI:

Story (healthy?), Urias, Reyes, DHam, EValdez (DH material)

1B:

Casas, Dalbec (no Turner)

3B:

Devers, Urias

Am I missing anyone better than Ref, Rafaela and Abreu who is ML ready?

Are DHam, EValdez, Caleb Hamilton and Dalbec better depth than Rafaela and Abreu (and maybe Rosier?)

I repsect your opinions, but feel we need to just agree to disagree on this and move on.

I'm going to Total Wine tonight and buying some Whistle Pig to pour some out for our lost homey Chaim Bloom.

So sad!

I might have been misinterpreting Moons' post, but I was trying to say that the Sox are better at those positions overall.

I was never the biggest Bloom hater, but this firing signals Henrys acceptance that it is time for a change in direction. I welcome this. I too shall drink in celebration tonight. Whiskey? Wine? or a nice IPA? Might even put in a little 420.

I drink in celebration because I am even more confident in my prediction of adding top-notch starting pitchers this offseason.

I will accept your apologies now for doubting me.

Wow!

The talk shows and over half this board must be euphoric!

(I'm fine with the choice. I'm curious who the next guy is.)

My guess is that there was a lot of friction between Bloom and Cora. Henry went with Cora. Alex will be back. Bloom is out. Theo on the way ?

If it is Theo, I'd be thrilled!

I don't know if it's a change in direction, but they need someone that can grow the farm AND pay attention to the MLB team. Chaim was inept with the MLB team going back to 2020. He lucked into 2021.

Do they have someone picked out?

My guess is BOH is interim.

Brian O'Hallaran has been offered the position allegedly.

Our organization has significant expectations on the field and while Chaim’s efforts in revitalizing our baseball infrastructure have helped set the stage for the future, we will today begin a search for new leadership. Everyone who knows Chaim has a deep appreciation and respect for the kind of person he is. His time with us will always be marked by his professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering respect for our club and its legacy.

I didn't see how they would go into the off-season trusting him to make the decisions that will be necessary to turn this team around. I see this as a JH move that shows that yes he is involved in what is going on. Good for him and for us.
Posted
I wouldn't trust Chaim to make this year's offseason moves either. He whiffed last year when given a big pot of money.

Where'd you hear this?

Also, if true, it could very likely be an interim position while they search for a more long term option. As you had suggested.

I'm actually going to wear my Red Sox hat up at the club tonight for one of the few times this season.

He's been offered a new senior leadership role. He's not the new GM

Isn't he already the GM? Bloom was never the GM.

on the soxprospects forum from a poster so take it as a MASSIVE grain of salt.

Oh, that poster only grades out as a 35 so I don't trust them. If it was a 60 grade poster maybe!

Just double checked, he is the and has been the GM. It sounds like he's taking over Blooms responsibilities while they look for other options.

That's very poor on the scouting scale for poster credibility.

The same article says the search for a new baseball operating will be begin right away. So Brian is not the guy
