I missed the trade part, but why would any team pay $140M to get rid of someone. The Sox paying to get rid of Price was bad enough as was paying JT to opt out.

It's not the $140M spent they look at. It's the $110M saved that might make it worthwhile.

I doubt the Angels trade him and pay more than $70-80M. I doubt the Sox even ask about him.

I fixed your post for you.

I'm 73 - I'm Scottish - I'm from Maine. These are just a couple of reasons why you should not change my statements.

Trout + 140M (Sox paying Trout to be a 2 fWAR guy for through 2030)

for

Duran

Crawford

BTV accepted Duran & Crawford for B Garrett.

Our OF/DH situation, without any additions would look like:

DH: Yoshida

LF: Abreu-Refsnyder (Yoshida)

CF: Rafaela-Abreu

RF: Dugo- Abreu

(and we could trade Dugo and sign Duvall.)

I don't think they will do it, but it's fun to talk about on here.

I agree with you. It is a lot more fun to talk about this team possibly trying to acquire legit superstars as opposed to watching them walk away.

All good reasons.

If I felt like Trout could play 140+ games for a few years, I'd be all for it, as might most others.

Shiny superstars who rarely play are not what I think we should pursue.

I'm not sure he would need to play 140 for me. Granted it's a lot of money for someone who has had to deal with being banged up recently. But - and yes it is a big one - It is Mike Trout. I just happen to think that the franchise has to make at least one or two deals like this just to show us that there really is going to be an effort to get things back to where they should be.

I thought that you would like them. Beats me saying that I'm just a cranky old bastard who doesn't want to be bugged. lol

Nothing going on. May as well talk about something.

@AriA1exander

SOURCE: The #RedSox are signing LHP Helcris Olivarez to a minor league deal with an MLB Spring Training Invite.

The 23-year old LHP Dominican flamethrower is a former top prospect with the Rockies.

He has made 50 MiLB starts and has a career 10.4 K/9, and has touched 101 MPH.

The only difference in the Breslow Era and the Bloom Era so far is the news didn't end with, "Currently rehabbing from minor surgery, a blackened big toenail and a bruised ego, Olivarez should be ready to pitch on flat ground by the trade deadline... in 2025."

If you don’t care why talk about it especially if there is not a snowballs chance in hell of it happening.

I care to talk about Trout getting traded to the Sox because it's fun. I don't care that you think it won't happen. You are just trying to rain on our fun parade.

@redsoxstats

Helcris Olivarez is an interesting minor league signing. He had tons of prospect helium in 19-20, had an incredibly wild 2021 while showing outrageous stuff, then had a scapula strain / eventual shoulder capsule surgery late in 2022. He missed this year, but returned last month

The surgery was far from minor!

Dreaming in La La land is fun? BTV accepts this, and BTV accepts that must be fun too, but I asked a while back when is the last time when of those suggested trades actually happened? To each its own I guess, on what’s an example of what fun is. As far as the fun parade goes, and I like parades, but I would say it’s been Bloom, and JH that has done the raining on your parade.

Here's another one: according to BTV, if the Red Sox just took both Burnes (32) and Yellich (-35) off the Brewers' hands, Milwaukee would still owe Boston a minor league infielder like Eric Brown Jr. or Mike Boeve (each at 2.5).

Then the site could be called Baseball Giveaway Values.

That’s a f***ing stupid question. So it’s invalid because GMs use different names?

Check the site out. Well over 50% of trades that do happen work using their system.

Also, Bloom and Henry don’t post here…

You must think going out for ice cream is fun!?!?!?

They might still want to dump his salary to start over and spread it out more evenly, next time.

F’n stupid question? You mean like you asking if the Red Sox signed JT for the bench? I don’t care about BTV just like I don’t care about analytics. There is nothing wrong with that just like there isn’t anything wrong with the people who do. All I’ve asked is when was the last time a suggested BTV trade on here actually happened?

Who said anything about Bloom, and Henry posted on here. The point being it would be more fun being a Red Sox fan if Bloom, and JH did a better job, so the Red Sox would be a winning team who got into the postseason.

No one cares if you like BTV or not. Like analytics they exist and your attempts to discredit them are ridiculous. That the trades don’t happen is irrelevant. You listen to Felger and Mazz - two guys who thought the Sox could acquire Juan Soto 18 months ago without giving up any good prospects. When was the last time they suggested (not reported, suggested) any trade that actually happened?

What gets posted on this board is often irrelevant to the performance of the team. Go back to 2018 and find me the “Yeah happy day to be a Sox fan” thread…

Maybe, but not likely. They’d probably focus dumping as much Rendon as possible…

Unless it’s some weird seasonal flavor like “turkey stuffing” or “green bean casserole”…

There were folks who said last season's Red Sox were " fun to watch " . Really. They actually said that.

They were, until they weren't.
