Jays get a 3 run HR from Varsho to jump the Cubs 3-2 early. At some point we need to win when they and others lose ( like yesterday) or the Sox will run out of games in late September.

All wins are good at this point. Hitters get into the game, pitching remains a positive. All around good day, and a break tomorrow before the 16 game stretch with no break that will define this season, IMO. Sox need to win the Nats series, then the Yankees before facing the Dodgers and Astros , both of whom are playoff bound teams.

Story and Duvall coming through today could not be better for the Sox, whose hitting and especially scoring has been lackluster over the last 15 games (averaging 3.28 runs per game). The talent--Story, Duvall, Devers, Yoshida, Casas, Duran, Verdugo--is there.

 

And now the pitching looks pretty good with Good Sale back plus Whitlock and soon Houck.

Whitlock-Martin-Jansen a great way to close out a game.

 

Perhaps the best thing about Whitlock's return is that now Barraclough is in AAA, and when Houck replaces Llovera, we'll have zero scrubs in the pen.

 

Our worst pitcher will be the decent Bernardino. Murphy and Wink would be our 2nd and third worst. WOW! What a pen!

Getting Turner back is a big boost for the Sox and if Story can be a solid hitter we can generate the runs that have been so hard to come by of late.
