Even if ownership is happy Bloom didn't blow money or prospect capital going for it, they can't be glad he didn't optimize more expiring assets before they're gone... two deadlines in a row, now.

It should have been either buy or sell. Holding and doing nothing is the worst of all options two years in a row. Bloom might be able to run a FO that can build a farm, but he doesn't seem able to run a FO that can manage an MLB roster on a day to day basis. If they do get good, that could spell trouble.

No. I don't think anyone is happy about his decision making the past 2 deadlines.

2021? He bought an injured Schwarber that took a while to pay dividends...

This has been my main criticism since Year 1.

I think building the farm is very much a GM's job, so I refuse to give any guy too much credit in this area -- unless more than 20% of any year's harvest makes the Show (counter to the estimated 80% of all pro "prospects" who don't make it).

The trick is building a good MLB roster, blending acquisitions from all avenues to produce a consistent quality club that usually wins more games than it loses.

Chaim has not done that yet -- so we just don't know if he can... or how long (or how much) ownership will give him to prove himself.

The Red Sox are 5-16 the last 3 years the 7 games after the trade deadline. Coincidence, or not?

How about 8-14 before the deadline, the last 2 years combined in the 11 games before it?

They were also 1-8 in the 3 games before the deadline over the last 3 years.

Good additions of facts. Thanks. We agree he’s put two bad teams together the last two years.

You’re glad he didn’t sell last year and went over the CBT causing the Sox to get lower comp picks?

Good thing putting teams together for specific 2 calendar week stretches is not a GM's job description.

His deadline moves are stupid. It’s like he’s trying to take a 5 year process to rebuild a farm and do it in two and a h h Alf years…

On another note:

Am I wrong in saying our last top 6 prospect on SP's that was traded was Jalen Beeks for Nate on 7/25/18?

It's been over 5 years.

My research may be wrong, but I think the highest ranked prospect traded, since then, was #9 Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber at the '21 deadline.

I don't have the answer, but what ranking was the second highest ranked prospect traded, since Beeks?

I'm still fine with that. To me the real f***up was going over the CBT at the start of the year with the JBJ trade.

We all have our own special things to complain about.

I do have my doubts about whether not going over, last year, would have meant we'd have gone over, this year.

Michael Lorenzen really knows how to make a deadline trade look good.

He's keeping all those "what if" arguments on the front burner.

Our pen games have really taken a toll on our staff and our record.

I don't care about its impact on this year's budget, but about its impact on the comp picks.

Good for him. 124 pitches for a guy that was mostly a career reliever may have an impact down the stretch though.

True. Some no-hitters have really been costly in the modern era of 110 pitch limits.

He hadn't gone past 7 innings before this season. In back to back starts with PHI he went 8 and 9, throwing 101 and 124 pitches.

I know you have a shiny new toy and are trying to get into the playoffs, but the guy had a 7-0 lead. No matter how much you hate your pen, you have to think about the next 2 months with him. He's already at a career innings high for a season.

Maybe it works out? It's a gamble though for a guy in his 30's though.

Definitely a gamble. And certainly plenty of pitchers have been pulled after 6 or 7 no hit innings. But I do get leaving him out there to let the fans watch him finish it. It is for the fans who paid that night after all…

Yes, that was the worst of it, for sure.

I think they let Lorenzen finish it out for Lorenzen most of all, not the people in the seats.

...who will be lambasting the team if he gets even a muscle cramp between now and the end of the season.

Probably true. But don’t you think the fans enjoyed it?

It’s Philadelphia. The Phillies could win the World Series while saving the whales and removing all the air pollution, and fans would still be booing them…

A memorable moment for Lorenzen and his family. He is a very strong guy who should be able to handle the pitch count. But if he falters, you can be sure that fans will blame Thompson for leaving him in. Even some of the same fans who complain about players being coddled. That's just how it is.

So Sale and Whitlock came back as promised and both did well. If Houck follows suit, it's actually going to make the trade deadline inactivity look quite justifiable.
