Your grandfather does not have a loser attitude.

He hasn't had one complaint about "the changes to the game" this year, just about the Sox not playing well. Fair!

Jansen probably could have brought back an interesting return.

Bloom is definitely hesitant to blow it up for some reason. Sox would have been better to deal off more assets in '22 and '23.

Jeez, why not just a full-on tank then? Why even bother with the pretense of trying to contend?

I think he's definitely looking at '24 as the year that opens the window of contention. Only logical reason.

Now that is a loser attitude. Sell when you still have a chance to get into the postseason for a couple of prospects. Once again I bet the players in that clubhouse don’t feel that way, or the fans going to the games, and pay top dollar for tickets. It’s easy to sit back from afar, and say what to do.

I don't agree with standing pat. Should have traded some guys and retooled in the offseason again. Maybe Henry didn't want Fenway to empty out?

The bones of this team are much stronger than they were 12-18 months ago.

Why even bother to sign Raffy?

I have to agree.

My 93 year old grandfather in law still watches all the games and isn't bothered by the opener. He was just glad they traded that bum Kiké. Some people just need perspective.

Oh no say it ain’t so calling Kike a Bum. I know Kike was roasted, and toasted on the game threads, but even I never thought any such thing. My pushback on Kike was always against those who thought he was better than he was, so I guess that made me a hater to some.

I know sell is the overwhelming opinion on here, but get out of this little corner, and I just don’t hear that anywhere else. If truth be told I bet Cora, and the players are pissed that no help was added although probably relieved that no one was traded from the parent team.

Do you actually read this board? Or are you some type of troll?

There is a more overwhelming opinion to sell than go for it, and has been for two years now. That’s a fact.

Anyone who says we're guaranteed to be much better next year needs to project the 2024 rotation.

Need to double check your priorities in life then.

If my priorities were meritorious, I wouldn't be here nearly as much.

Jansen has been fine ... but nothing special. I think you count on recycling that.

I don't see that he's wrong. The complaints about not selling off at last year's deadline have never stopped, really. And there was certainly lots of talk about trading Paxton, Duvall etc. this year.

Right, so most of the board didn't want them to get a pitcher this year? Alrighty then.

Are we sure about that? I saw a bunch of "Sox should go for it", particularly from the Joe Sheehan sorts nationally. Heck, once I saw the price for Scherzer - I thought the team absolutely should have made a push. I don't think the team is long term in a position to be stupid about the prospects to move. But if you knew Nick Yorke and another like-level prospect could get you a decent starter, I'd have gone for it.

What we project and what they put on the field will not match.

It's an exercise though.

They didn't sell and how did it work out?

They should have sold last year.

They had 3 options this year and I will rank them in order of MY preference:

Buy

Sell

Hold

With Paxton, there is the option to offer him a QO. It makes sense to keep him. With Duvall, less so.

Almost everyone on this board wanted them to buy SP, if not everyone. I wanted them to buy, but on a controllable arm that could help at least this season and next. If not possible, holding was fine for me.

I think most everyone wanted at least a back of the rotation starter. People saying otherwise are just making an argument for arguments sake.

I must have just imagined all the posts about trading Paxton.

I'm not the biggest fan of holding, but it's not the end of the world.

There was a MUCH bigger argument for trading last year's assets than for the guys they have this year.

Cots has this on Paxton...

23-24 club options, to be exercised or declined simultaneously, at annual salaries of $13M plus performance bonuses earned in 2022

2022 performance bonuses: $250,000 each for 12, 14, 16, 18 starts

annual performance bonuses for 2023-24, if options are exercised: $250,000 each for 20, 22, 24, 26 starts, less 2022 bonuses earned
