This is why defense matters. Colorado only had their two runs through 9 innings thanks to another throwing error from Kike. Meanwhile Nate Jones saves two runs with some stellar home run robbing defense.

And it’s truly sad that Cora blatantly refuses to notice that Gonzalez is a nightmare at SS…

Gonzalez?

If the Red Sox come back, and win great, but if they don’t the two errors were certainly huge, but not scoring in the first inning with bases loaded, and no outs was also big.

Pivetta sucks

He's not that good, but I'll give him a small break tonight; it was his 3rd appearance in 4 games, which is probably something he has never done.

A loss tonight is on Raffy's AB in the first and the defense.

How about the SOX trade Cora and Bloom to Tampa for Kevin Cash?

Sounds like I didn't miss a stellar performance by our bats once again.... only 2 hits... wow. How did Paxton look tonight?

Paxton was terrific.

Also the Sox got more than 2 hits. Heck they had more than that 3 batters into the game…

Bases loaded with no outs and they didn't score. I don't think most of us realize how difficult that is for most teams to do.

Ah- I had looked at the wrong stat. Too many 0-fers though. I expect Casas to go 0-fer... but Devers...c'mon man.

Devers did get robbed of a 2 run home run in the 8th…

Pitching is finally solid and the bats are quiet lately. This team can’t put together a full game if they tried

Loaded the bases in the first and do nothing. Story of our life. Can get hits, but bringing in runs they make it look like it’s the toughest thing in the world

Very very frustrating loss

Frustrating team. We keep wanting them to be good, but all they can be is what they are, which is perfectly mediocre.

Devers struggles are emblematic of the lineup, which last night was one again lousy at the plate and in the field. Pitching, even Pivetta, was fine until Cora intentionally walked a guy and also sent the pitching coach out to mess with Pivetta’s head. The wheels came off after those two actions/decisions.

But the real problem is the lineup, including the return of Duvall.

Tampa is the perfect example of what can be accomplished with the right management team. We are stuck and the sooner every body realizes it the less heart attacks you'll have over these second rate players. Stop making excuses to yourself you will feel better

Tampa did exactly what the Sox are doing to create their MiLB and team framework, but with less resources for their MLB team.

The offense was over achieving. This was bound to happen.

The offense was not over-achieving. In fact, I'd argue it's capable of sustained success. Every team is slump-bound, but the way to survive slumps is pitching and defense, and this is a poorly constructed roster defensively.

It's only one loss , although the team is again below .500 and on the wrong side of run differential ( -1) . Oh wait, you say that Daniel Bard was the winning pitcher , and Connor Seabold shut them down for 6 or so innings. Now you do have a problem . That game and outcome was pathetic, with defensive errors and warning track power overcoming a fine start by Paxton .

Oh so you think Verdugo, Duvall and Devers numbers from April was capable of hitting like they did that month for the rest of the year? I don't think so.

Duvall played for two weeks. Devers, obviously, Verdugo has been consistently good all season. What I did think was that Turner, Casas and Kike could either improve or move towards career norms. Casas and Turner have indeed improved, but parts of the lineup have cratered in ways that are due for correction. Again, all teams slump.

It is weird that now that we're pitching better, other teams are pitching better against us. But that's baseball.

This is just not a well constructed roster. You can't win low scoring games consistently if you have terrible defense.
