This is what I expected from him when he was called up. Hopefully he turns into a consistent reality.

He's unreal right now.

Duran has changed his approach at the plate; bat held higher, less leg kick. Of course, no player changed his approach at the plate during a career more than Dwight Evans.

Based on the stats shown for Paxton's start tonight, he is far from ready. 82 pitches/42 strikes , 4 runs in 4 innings or was it 5 runs ? He's not ready for prime time and Sox don't need him right now, make him work for it.

Yup. Some "suspects" take time to get it together.

He even made a very nice catch, last night.

So lots of yapping on many boards about Cora mismanaging Sale last night by letting him set up the 5th run. How far do you low pitch count (80) Kluber go. Enter the 7th and pull after anyone gets on ??

So Max says someone must fall on the grenade that is Corey Kluber and start this thread, fully realizing there will be no tomorrow for said volunteer.

Kluber has so far accounted for the L in 33% of Sox losses, chalking up a sterling 8.50 ERA in 18 innings over 4 starts, WHIP'ing opponents to a 1.50 tune. Corey has given up 19 hits in the 18 innings, 6 of which are HR's .

Kyle Brandish is a 26 year old , with only 2 starts, and 7.2 innings accumulated in those (8Ks/2BB) . So how effective has this semi-starter been ? Try a 0.0000000 ERA and 1.04 WHIP

Like Max says, this one is a mission deep into enemy territory with little hope for survival . Let's hope our batters swing their weapons and that Bumpires do not determine the outcomes.

Many thanks for your conspicuous bravery. Kluber should thank you as well.

Max, I'm on to your contrarian madness that made this possible . I spoke to Corey and informed him of the consequences .

Sale had a 4 run lead, so to me some of that lead was worth protecting. Sale should not have pitched the 5th and probably should have been replaced in the 4th.

Tonight is quite different because The Sox were up 7-0 after two innings and Kluber has gone 6 while giving up just 1 run. Plus the better arms in the bullpen rested last night.

A much better attitude, approach, and possibly instant maturity, and we have a functional outfielder with a hot bat. Depth is good here.

Kluber had a good outing against a good hitting team…

… WITH MCGUIRE CATCHING!!

Two things can be true at once despite the odds

A tale of 4 games by our veteran , one time Aces/CY winners : Sale dominant, Kluber sucks, Sale sucks, Kluber dominant . A combined 1-6 prior to this game, where Kluber should be the winner

Tonight Kluber set a new standard for contrariness by a player on this Sox team this season. He still threw that 88 mph fastball, but pretty much made sure it didn't do any damage. No applause can be wild or loud enough.

Assuming the Sox win this game and go back to 1 over .500, I think it might be time to get just a little more positive than most of us have been this season.

The no-name lineup is hitting, and that's a fact, jack. The bullpen is bullpenning. The defense isn't killing us. Turner shouldn't have tried for 3d last night, but the baserunning has been OK.

And Mr. McGuire, please take a bow for the brilliant way you caught Kluber tonight. I think the "que CERA, CERA" sign is off your back for now. Plus you can hit.

What did I leave out? The rotation, of course. Hope springs eternal. If Kluber can keep doing something like tonight, that's seven starters, including Bello at AAA, which means starters plus long relievers plus short relievers plus Jansen. That horrible team ERA is in my opinion misleading.

Yes, and I’m glad to say Duran looks like a completely different player, and the the same with the Wink Man.

No matter what you think of McGuire's talents, you gotta respect a player who dives head-first into first base, with an eight-run lead.

Poor bastard might have stumbled across talksox and decided tonight it was now or never. However, jerks like me--thanks to moonslav--had already backed off. If you can hit, you can play. And tonight he was excellent at the plate and behind it and running the bases.

Orioles have 7 hits tonight, only one of consequence. But without keeping a close track they all seem to have come with 2 outs

The pure joy of strike throwers. Wink goes 2 innings, 6 outs on 27 pitches, and it would have been even better without the 2 out single.
