What a crock! Kluber nailed that coffin up when he gave up 7 runs in the first 3 innings. The Twins have the best pitching, lowest ERA, in MLB, so the game was over going into the 4th inning. That's why Cora let Kluber pitch two more innings--to save the bullpen a little bit.

As for Brasier, he has also had some good outings this season, including a really good save. Tonight was the right game to screw up.

Extend Braiser ala Barnes already!

Tapia still showing some deceptive stats but trust me this guy is a fraud, like Kluber will prove to be

Kluber will prove to be? He hasn't already shown he's a fraud?

As for Tapia, I would just say the lineup all season has been a patchwork quilt, but they have scored runs.

Not what I said at all. I mostly agreed with everyone who suggested DFAing him. But now I'm glad he wasn't. He has had some good outings this season.

On the other hand, the idiotic Twins reliever just walked Casas, so the bases are loaded with no one out. If the Sox score four, I will join the mob who want to ride Brasier out of town on a rail.

Exactly. This was Brasier’s 11th appearance this year. He’s given up runs in 3 of them. You’d think by the way people react on here, he’s lit up every time.

The biggest problem with him is when he does give up runs, he gives them up in bunches.

He gave up 3 on opening day against the O’s. He then had 3 scoreless appearances (allowing one hit and one walk in those 3 games. Then he gave up 3 against the Tigers, followed by 4 more scoreless games (2 hits allowed with a save). Then tonight.

He’s serviceable, nothing more.

Valdez just lined out with men on base in the 9th. Plus he has 2 singles. Maybe he deserves another shot despite his defense.

Yes, pretty much agree with you, but the Panthers just scored again early 3rd . Why would anyone watch 10-4 baseball when the Stanley Cup playoffs are on. Oh, because we can see two screens at once. Got it

Never was a hockey fan--and that is definitely not hockey's fault although I do have trouble seeing the puck. My real problem is I never played--or skated, really (except on roller skates).

Plus right now I can watch the Yankees and Angels. And guess what, I know some of those players.

Is Bobby Orr playing tonight? Bobby Hull? Maurice Richard? Great Gretsky? If not, see ya later.

3d period, I assume at Boston Garden, and the Bruins are down by 2.

Playing about at the RS .500 level after going 65-12 in season. My quick assessment, likely wrong, is that the Red Sox are a .500 +- team and we need to get used to it . I remember that in most of the 50's, 60s, 70s, 80s,90s and up to 2004. It's not fun, younger fans. Where is Kimmy this year?

We definitely need Kimmi. I do remember those days. On the other hand, I'm hugely grateful I lived long enough for all of the John Henry era.

Put it this way. If you've experienced 55 years of the 86 year curse, what we are "enduring" now is a walk in the park.

How many last place finishes did you live through in the years prior to JH? How many sub .500 seasons.?

Bottom of the 9th, 2-2, 2 outs, and the Yankees just stole 2b. Yanks are pinch-hitting for Franchy Cordero. Haven't I heard that name before? The hitter's name is Isiah Kiner-Falefa who was born in Hawaii and just K'd. Wikipedia says he is of Samoan, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Caucasian descent. Edited by Maxbialystock

Rizzo just took a HBP, by which I mean he did not step back, but turned around so it would hit him in the back. Loaded the bases, and a sac fly got the win for the Yankees.

Sox players rarely take an HBP and prefer to throw themselves down, up, back, or wherever to avoid a deadly HBP.

I remember saying this often from the mid 70's into the early 2000's, "I'll take 10 last place finishes for just one ring."

Now, I'm spoiled, but I'd still rather have 1 ring and 10 last place finishes in an 11 year stretch than being heartbroken for 11 straight years, but with no last place finishes.

Agree. Also, my claim of 55 years of pain is kind of phony because from 1940 (when I as born in Boston) to 1999 I lived all over the States and overseas and rarely saw a Sox game on TV. I did listen to Curt Gowdy call games on the radio, 1953-54, which sealed my fandom. And uncle of mine lived through all 86 years of the curse--in the Boston suburbs--and rarely missed a game on radio or TV. He suffered, but he kept watching/listening.

Brasier sucks, plain and simple. He is not MLB caliber pitcher.

The frustration level was so high, for so many years. Being pretty good to really good for many of the years, but just not good enough- seemingly just one ace away from a ring, so many times probably made it harder to endure than had we finished last half the time, but I really felt strongly about preferring one ring and 10 last places to 11 second places.

Having been concious of Red Sox baseball, via my Dad who went to college in Boston, since about 1950 the years of watching the Yankee dominance was extremely disheartening. But I think the real pain was in the '67, '75 , '86 WS losses in 7 games often turning on a quirky play . The loss to the Cardinals in '46 , the year I was born was always just a legend of Pesky and Slaughter . The '78 B.F. Dent HR was about as difficult to absorb as any of the WS losses. In the end the JH era of ownership has be4en the reward for staying a fan for so long. Those successes makes the recent mediocrity harder to accept without comment.

The loss in '78 was rough, too.

There was also a year we finished 1/2 game behind Detroit, due to the unbalanced strike induced schedule, and countless second places, where we had a damn good record, and were maybe a top 4 team in MLB, but with no playoff slot.

No doubt, those seasons were still exciting and fun to watch, but the no rings thing wore at me.

No playoffs:

85-70 in 1972 (0.5 GB and no playoffs)

89-73 in '72 (2nd)

97-64 in '77 (2nd) 1 game from the 4th best record in MLB

99-63 in '78 (T best record in MLB, but lost play-in game to Bucky Dent)

91-69 in '79 (better than 2 division winners)

89-73 in '82 (same as one div winner)

93-69 in '02 (9th best record in MLB- only 8 teams make it)

Made Playoffs:

Lost 7th game in WS: '67, '75 and '86

89-73 in '88 lost ALCS to OAK 4-0

88-74 in '90 lost ALCS to OAK 4-0

86-58 in '95 lost ALDS to CLE 3-0

92-70 in '98 lost ALDS to CLE 3-1

94-68 in '99 won ALDS 3-2 over CLE/ lost ALCS 4-1 to NYY

95-67 in '03 won ALDS 3-2 OAK/ Lost ALCS to NYY 4-3

Since I started being a Sox fan in 1972...

1972 to 2003:

1 last place (1992)

1 sixth place out of 7 teams (1983)

1 fourth place out of 5 (1994)

5 fifth place out of 7

8 between 3rd and 4th place

16 out of 32 seasons first or second:

11 second places

5 first places

2004 to 2022: 19 seasons

5 last places

0 second to last

4 third places

5 second places, including 2004

5 first places

10 first & second

9 third or fifth
