The suspense is unbearable.

We are just days away from having all our SP'ers healthy, at the same time.

To me, Whitlock could easily be the best SP'er we have on the team, so I'm not sending him to the pen.

Bello may morph into the second best by year's end, but he's not going to go 190 IP.

Houck might be a top 3 SP'er, and maybe I'm reading too much into his small sample size of horrible numbers the third time through a line-up. Besides, not many SP'ers go past 18 batters, anyway. That being said, with so many SP'ers healthy, unless some are or still are really stinking things up in a couple/three weeks, I like Houck taking over Whitlock's 2021-2022 role in the pen.

Whitlock

Bello

Kluber

Sale

Pivetta

Paxton (I'd piggy back Paxton with Bello, until we know more about these 6.)

Pen:

8-9th inning

Jansen

Martin, Schreiber

6-7th inning

Brasier, Bleier (JRod when healthy)

2-3 inning guys (may pitch through 8th and 9th)

Houck, Whitlock

Crawford

A week ago, Whitlock was too homer-prone. Today he’s our best starter.

To be honest, I don’t agree with either sentence. But he will be in the rotation until he proves he doesn’t belong…

I know we are kind of just beating up on the bad teams early but if Bello turns out a good performance after what Whitlock showed today I think I can feel a lot better about this team.

Whitlock and Bello are likely the reason, Bloom only signed 1 SP'er to replace the 3 we left. The return of Sale & Paxton may end up secondary.

I want us to be competitive and make the playoffs. But I am also interested in Sox building a core group for the future. Whitlock and Bello are big pieces to that. I still hope Houck can be a starter also. It starts with solid starting pitching.

Ask Moon. We"ve had two ace types while winning the world series.

Maybe this will be the first time we win one without at least one of the aces being acquired by trade or free agency.

Pedro- trade

Schilling- trade

Beckett- trade

Lester- homegrown

Lackey- FA

I am not expecting many innings or much quality from Paxton. He has become accustomed to being on the Mark Prior IL Gravy Train.

His last game at Worcester, he threw a ton of meatballs

Paxton?

He has not let up any HRs in his 2 games with WOO.

6.1 IP

6 Hits (O HRs)

2 ER

4 BB

9 K

2.84 ERA

Too many walks, but he did not look all that bad.

Does he get one more start in AAA?

I think his career is about long enough, where we can say, the guy can pitch very well. He has some very nasty stuff, that I don't think anyone can deny.

Can he be a legit SP'er for a full season? Maybe not.

Did the injury, last year, change his long term outlook? Maybe.

My hopes are high, but only because I know he can pitch. I'm not sure about 160+ IP, let alone 180+, but He's a damn good pitcher- maybe our best, right now.

Whitlock is a good pitcher that had a bad game last time.

If the Sox can get Paxton, Whitlock and Bello going, this team might not be so bad…

This was also the longest start of Whitlock's career. He threw 6 innings twice last year.

Those 99 pitches were 15 more than his previous MLB career high, as well.

My guess is, his next start will be 65-75 pitches.

Man, he looked as sharp as ever!

The Sox are 8-9. There are currently 13 teams with better records, including 4 just 1 game better.

It's interesting to see this...

8-8 Boston

8-8 LAD

8-8 SEA

8-9 SDP

7-9 HOU

7-9 STL

6-10 PHI

He should use baseballs…

Meatballs are smaller and should be theoretically harder to hit depending on how dense they are.

Once hit, they don't go very far, but are impossible to field, cleanly.

Some fielders are able to gobble them up quickly.

Chris Sale Day again. His fastball and sinker have been two of the worst pitches in baseball, his fastball literally the worst pitch in baseball (min. 50 pitches) with a .785 wOBA allowed.

If his command resurfaces, we'll see if it's a cure-all.

Since they won the World Series, Sale has just had real trouble keeping the ball in the yard.

Who's catching him this time?

That's what happens when your arm no longer works the same way.

It's Reese McGuire's fault that Sale sucks now though!

CERA, CERA

Whatever made you want to change your mind?

CERA, CERA

So easy to look at, so hard to define.

52 degrees and I get to sit through a Chris Sale '23 start... Where do I sign up?

Sonny Gray is a RHP so I would assume McGuire.

I'm hoping it's Wong but you're likely right. At some point I assume Cora will transition from a platoon to pitcher-catcher pairings. Crazy how many lefty starters we've faced.

I haven’t seen prices like that for those seats in many years. The interest in the team has been waning for years, and last place teams aren’t helping the situation. I tried to get my son to go to the game tonight, but we just went on Sunday.
