Wasn't the point that MLB pitching is lightyears ahead anything a hitter sees in the Minors made just a couple posts ago?

Yes, I tried to make that point.

What are we waiting for!

He's a high ceiling prospect with still a lot of questions about how his bat will play up due to chase rate. I think they are going to go a little slower with him that fans will like.

Sept call up most likely.

He's going to swing like me playing MLB the Show.

WOO plays until 9/24. I believe the BOS roster only goes up to 28 players. We'll see what the plans are.

He may struggle the way Duran did in his first appearance. At least he will look good in the OF.

Looking at WOO, I do think maybe it’s time to get back on the Ryan Fernandez train. If nothing else, he’s likely to be a step or two up over Mauricio Llovera…

Looking at the last gamefeed, he's throwing only his 4 seamer and a cutter. Really not getting many k's with that pitch mix. The cutter has been what has revitalized a lot of pitchers (including that dastardly Brasier), but it's not really a new addition for him.

And then the same people calling for him will call him a suspect, call Bloom a wanker (or its US equivalent), and say that we should have traded him while his value was high. Good times.

Freaking hypocrites. They love not loving, and hate hating. Can't we all just, like, like...

I honestly don't think Rafaela can handle MLB pitching yet. However, I said the same thing about AA pitching and like a week later he went nuclear.

Lots of descriptive words I could have used there, I just think "wanker" is funny.

It is funny. I'm also on series 6 of a Dr Who binge right now. The only word I got a kick out of was chav, which is just the greatest word.

Whatever free time I have, I've been dumping into Final Fantasy XVI. Like in Bloom's case, I don't get the vitriol against it.

@tylermilliken_

Red Sox leaders in fWAR at SS this season:

1. Pablo Reyes (39 Games) - 0.3

2. Yu Chang (39 Games) - 0.3

3. Trevor Story (5 Games) - 0.2

4. Bobby Dalbec (10 games) - -0.1

5. David Hamilton (13 Games) - -0.2

6: Kiké Hernández (86 Games) - -1.5

Is Story the fWAR leader by the end of the weekend?

Story is +0.2, today. fWAR

Doing the quick math -- and based on the concept of WAR (correct me if I'm wrong) -- as of August 15, 2023, the Boston Red Sox' shortstop position has performed at a negative overall value for the season... so below that of a "replacement player"?

If so, can all the injuries, bad luck, front office/management paralysis and "dumb contract" arguments render that acceptable?

The best part is that Pablo -- the literal definition of a replacement player, acquired from the minors from the worst team in the league -- has played better than replacement-player levels.

I certainly agree with your point, but I always get a chuckle out of the word "acceptable"/"unacceptable", i.e. if we determine that it's unacceptable, where do we go from there?

Numbers are ********.

Reyes has only played 24 games at SS

Chang 33

Story 3

Dalbec 1

Hamilton numbers are right; all his games were as a SS

Hernandez 64

Chang’s WAR as a SS is probably about right; most of his appearances have been at that position and since he can’t hit, most of that number is from fielding.

Hernandez’s WAR as a SS is likely lower. His hitting has sucked anyway, but he did play in 21 games at 2B and 14 games in CF (obviously there were games where he played multiple positions). The eye test says his WAR contribution at those positions was positive.

Per my reply to mvp, the actual ss numbers are probably lower than what was shown, since the numbers listed are totals for anyone who played short this year and not just as ss. Lazy “journalism” by Milliken.

... so we have to lower the baaah (or order more at the baah)

It's not lazy as FanGraphs doesn't provide a split of fWAR on a positional basis for players. You can't run Yu Chang and see how much fWAR he got at each position.

I think it's interesting to see that Story has almost eclipsed all the other MIF options in less than a week.

Also, Tyler isn't a journalist. He writes really bad haikus and didn't know the difference between vicarious and bicurious on the podcast with Carrabis (most likely due to the public educational system in Brockton).

I think a 0.3 fWAR guy is basically a replacement player. I'm not sold that he'd be much better if he played 150 games.
