A hunch: Rafaela will open '24 on a big league roster... maybe even the Red Sox'.

A prediction: fastest mover in '24 will be Kyle Teel, maybe with a cup of coffee in Boston by September.

Both seem entirely possible.

You think Teel makes the bigs before Mayer?

MLB Pipeline just ranked all 30 farm systems. Red Sox were #16... they were #11 a year ago... and #12 two years ago. I'm so confused -- Bloom!

Baseball America has them at 3.

Probably. There is just not much standing in the way of him positionally ... and of course the offensive threshhold is much lower.

Fangraphs had Boston #4...

... but when you say "you" is that me, specifically, or all analysts in general?

And that would include fans, websites, media and voters; for instance, a decade ago, the Red Sox had the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year in 2013, Anthony Ranaudo, and 2014, Henry Owens. That certainly had to help Boston's rankings -- at least as far as pitching prospects. But alas, those awards may have been the highlights of both of their professional careers...

I meant "the analysts" as far as the "you". The team has done a lot to rebuild the lower levels with interesting pitching. But right now only Bello looks like a Top 2 starter (and he has graduated). Pitching will always have much wider error bars than position players.

Much more of a trusted organization on farm rankings.

MLB Pipeline isn't very good. If they had the Sox at #1, I wouldn't be hooting and hollering about it.

Sox are somewhere in the top 10 for sure. How high? Who knows?

Perales has similar "stuff" to Bello, but hasn't put together a full season yet.

Drohan? No.

ERC? No.

Monegro? IDK. He's been very good this year. He's going to really rise up the end of the year rankings. Had 18 swing and misses last time out. As good of a chance as Perales.

I'm not sure what is meant by as good of a chance as Perales. At becoming a big leaguer? perhaps, but Perales raw stuff is much better. Better fastball with more velocity, with a potential plus changeup with a lot more differential, amonst other advantages.

The injury concern may be real, but given his age and nature of the injuries I'm not yet convinced he's "injury prone". Most pitchers will sustain some kind of injury at some point in their careers, the fact that it happens earlier could be a concern, or just a fluke. If it's a fluke, he really is just one year behind on ramping up his innings.

Next year should be very telling for him. He could regress in rankings and become seen as more of a bullpen guy if he can not prove his durability, or he could progress into a top-100 prospect in all of baseball.

It's is concerning that Perales has not pitched in over a week, haven't heard about any kind of injury however.

This was from the last start when he was roughed up:

@RotoClegg

Luis Perales just took a smoked Termarr Johnson line drive off his thigh. He made the play and is staying in the game, but that has to hurt. You could hear it from the stands.

@redsoxstats

BA Hot Sheet

1. Wilyer Abreu

6. Kyle Teel

8. Yordanny Monegro

"[Monegro] generated a career-high 18 swinging strikes — showed command of his high-powered arsenal — ability to overpower age-appropriate competition. He’s a riser in a deep Red Sox system."

That makes me feel a lot better, they're likely just being cautious. Now if he was having soreness in his elbow or shoulder it would be much more cause for concern.

Soxprospects have him pegged as a guy who is a minor-league depth arm.

They also went from having him unranked to 29th so there is that. That's a lot of swing and miss.....makes me think they may change his scouting report at some point. Probably in the offseason, given his age and small track record, but he's been impressive.

They haven't changed Monegro's scouting report and won't do so until next Spring most likely. They also list Perales as "Potential back-end starter. Ceiling of a mid-rotation starter."

The current report doesn't even mention the slider the Monegro throws. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like when it's updated in ST.

A 96 MPH heater with a 12-6 curve is a nice combo IMO.

Yeah, you're right, and I remember that now.

They might change their rankings every month, but the scouting reports aren't updated as often.

I think it's reasonable to assume the scouting reports are going to raise the ceiling for both Monegro and Perales.

I just don't know how someone with that much swing and miss can't have MLB potential. He does.

Those little dances and jumps he does when he strikes people out is fun to watch if your a Red Sox fan, but must be aggravating if you are the opponent

Romero was carried off the field last night. No update about his NON CONTACT injury. Hip/knee issue?

We may never see what level he can play at, if he keeps getting hurt.
