And Story.

Story was hurt, and when he played, he did better than Baez and even Semien.

2022 OPS

.772 Seager (83 RBI in 663 PAs)

.770 Suzuki (46 RBI in 446 PAs)

.737 Story (66 RBI in 396 PAs)

.733 Semien (83 RBI in 724 PAs)

.671 Baez (67 RBI in 590 PAs)

I doubt it happens, but I'm thinking...

Swanson & Nimmo

or

Correa & Gallo

Two players with qualifying offers or two players without?

I’ve made my prediction…

Certainly, a big reason for that choice.

It does make sense to lean toward the non-QO'd FA's.

Correa seems so much better, too, so that does look like a better choice, but if we miss out on him, I can't see going light in RF, too.

Swanson + Gallo loses one pick (we gain one losing Bogey)

If we don't sign Turner, Correa, Bogey or Swanson as MLBTR suggests, don't we have to go larger in RF? Like Nimmo?

I’ve been the captain on Steamship Nimmo for a while now, but I really struggle to think of him as a $20mill player. He does have skills and his injury rep might be a tad overblown, but it feels heavy.

Of course I’m fine with heavy if it’s for 4 or 5 years. Heavy for 7+ years makes my bladder madder and my liver quiver

Is Correa worth what he'll get?

He has an injury history.

He's had multiple seasons under .780.

His defense dipped, this year.

Didn’t go for Judge? And the $340-400mill rumors?

None of them are going to be worth it. I do like that Nimmo’s contract is predicted to be 4-5 years. Correa is 8-10. So if Correa starts to decline in 5 years, you have a minimum of 3 years and $100mill in deadweight dragging down the team.

Could be ugly. Let’s just go get Adalberto Mondesi for next year and then Mayer in 2024…

I think Nimmo can be had for 5 yrs at higher pay.

Option B > Option A

What are the chances we get none of these 4?

What are the chances we get none from...

Judge

Nimmo

Turner

Correa

Bogey

Swanson

I'd say close to 50-50 we get none.

Nimmo had a good year, but did you know that Average Alex Verdugo had more hits, doubles, RBIs and a higher BA? Doogie is also three years younger, but does anyone think he's worthy of a $20 mil AAV?

Or is Nimmo just lucky this winter he's the best outfielder money can buy not named Judge?

Definitely the latter…

I’d hate to see the Sox have to walk away from $27-30mill AAV on Devers because the spent $22mill on Nimmo…

That's a no-brainer, IMO.

$22M x 5 for Nimmo vs $28M x 7 for Bogey is not as easy a choice.

Those xtra 2 years will not be prime years. That extra $6M a year gets us a nice RP'er or 2 decent ones. Close call, there.

If Devers is not in prime years at ages 32 and 33, why sign 30yo Brandon Nimmo at all?

I'd hate to see the Sox lose Devers because they signed anyone else for $22M right now.

And that includes Judge, who is not the overall hitter Devers is or will become, and who I seriously doubt will be as productive in the next decade...

I doubt Devers ever approaches the 2022 Aaron Judge.

But Judge spent a lot of time in his 20s on the Injured List and I seriously doubt this changes into his 30s

Or about half a Rafael Montero with a three-year commitment.

If middle reliever/set up types now command in excess of $11mill AAV and closers get a $20mill AAV, the Sox are going to have to be extremely prudent with their signings or they’re going to need a much, much bigger budget.

On the bright side, those who have been pushing for $145mill Chris Sale to go to the pen only to be met with “a $25mill closer?!?” are on the brink of seeing THAT argument disappear in a puff of negotiations and reality…

To be precise, if Xander Bogaerts signs elsewhere the Red Sox should received an added draft pick after the fourth round has been completed:

If the Red Sox sign a free agent who has rejected a qualifying offer, the Sox will lose their second- and fifth-highest picks in the 2023 draft. A second QO signing would result in the forfeiture of the third- and sixth-highest picks as well.

In short, the Bogaerts compensation would not cancel out the forfeitures.

Two of my three bullpen targets (I recently started pushing Robert Suarez) have re-signed with their old teams…

Michael Fulmer it is.:)

Thanks for the info. Bogey's comp pick barely cancels the 5th rounder lost by signing a QO FA.

Other than Bogaerts and Eovaldi, I doubt theSox talk to any free agent with a qualifying offer attached.

Probably not this winter.

It looks like Correa of Bogey are the two brightest possibilities.
