Doesn't really matter; Cora will keep unproductive JD at DH, even after Story returns. Arroyo will return to utility role. Sad, but most likely, true.

Cora will find ways to use Arroyo…

If JD can keep walking 2-3 times a game, he can be productive.

I'm not sure why pitchers are so afraid to pitch to him, though.

Where are all the DFA Arroyo posters?

On the Yankee websites. Arroyo is welcome here , hitting like crazy

8-7 in the last 15 (since 8/1) Feels like a lot more but baby steps and 1 game at a time. Orioles finally lose a game to the Jays, so it is tightening up , with Rays-Yankees tied in the 9th. May they both burn up their bullpens

The Yanks came back to beat the Rays!

We are back to .500.

We are now 4 down (5 in the loss column) to TBR & TOR. There are 3 teams between us and TBR/TOR.

Lots of baseball left.

This is not the same team as a few weeks ago.

9 games coming up starting Friday with Div teams ahead of the Sox. That will tell if they are a different team, or not.

And Casas isn’t exactly tearing up AAA.

.921 ops in august.

My biggest concern with Casas is his platoon splits. Going down the stretch, after the 22nd he doesn’t start the service clock if brought up.

Given his stature and recent level of play…..it should really be an option at this point.

Yeah really. The Pitates blows so they should be sweeping this series. The Yankees were on a down spiral so I'm not convinced yet

Just keep winning.

They are winning with only 3 guys hitting, if the lineup clicks they can score more runs and give the bullpen some leeway

The big three need to hit to move on. You can’t expect Dugy, and Arroyo to keep up their pace.

The Pirates are 6-24 since the ASG and currently in a 6 game losing streak, so this is an opportunity.

However, from August 4 thru August 10 the Sox lost 3 of 4 to the KC Royals and 2 of 2 to the Atlanta Braves. In the 5 games lost the Royals and Braves scored 7, 5, 13, 9, and 8 runs.

Then suddenly the pitching picked up against two good teams (winning records), the Orioles and the Yankees, and the Sox pitching gave up 3, 3, 3, and 0 runs in those 4 games while winning 3.

The hitting still stinks.

As stated above, it's Devers, Bogey, and JDM--the big money guys, which means they already get a lot of money or expect a big contract or both--who ain't delivering the mail.

Raffy's OPS for August is .628 (vs .932 for the season), Bogey's is .539 (vs. 813 for the season), and JDM's is .527 (vs .780 for the season).

So, lesson learned: paying big bucks guarantees nada. On another thread I've pointed out that Mookie Betts delivered a whole lot more mail (cumulative WAR of 40 for 5 seasons) for the "cheapskate" Sox than he has (cumulative WAR of 12 for 3 seasons) for the "money is no object" Dodgers.

Did I forget to mention that this year the penurious Sox are paying Price, Sale, and Eovaldi $63M to deliver a combined WAR of 1.0? Anyone remember who hired those guys? Anyone? Anyone?

And, what are we hearing from many of us fans and posters? "We better lock up Bogey and Devers, or I'm going to be very mad!"

FWIW, I'm well aware that JDM, Bogey, and Raffy have delivered tons of mail for the Sox. I think JDM by himself made the biggest difference in 2018 because adding him to the lineup just made everyone else better. And he's been good since--until this year, the last year of his contract. So kudos to DD for getting him. Bogey has been worth every dime, but at age 29, despite his improved defense (his DWAR is his best ever), he seems to have lost his power. Raffy has been terrific this year--just not this month. It is entirely possible that both Raffy and Bogey are fighting injuries.

As most of you know, I just like to whine.

It finally is no longer "early" . Those 9 games should be a make or break situation. 6-3 won't win it but will close it up enough to make a serious run.

5-4 keeps us in it, but makes it tougher. Remember, each win we get means a loss to a team we are competing with.

We'll still have a month left to the season with many games vs TBR and TOR.

Sure 6-3 or 7-2 would be better, but 5-4 will keep us alive.
