No Plawecki; that really sux.

Well the way he has been playing he really does deserve a rest. Gotta' get him geared up for the rest of the season. I wonder what a geared up Plawecki looks like.

Not imo

It’s best if we lose as many games as possible for the rest of the season. Better draft position.

This team is soooo easy to hate.

Wonder why I keep watching these games lol

Hosmer: "Hey, Alex how come you didn't let me pinch hit?"

Cora: "This was your scheduled day of rest."

Hosmer: "What the hell is that?"

Cora: "Just something i like to do."

LOL! I can easily see that happening mate.

Don't desert me, Big Papi.

Don't worry mate, I have a condition regarding this team that won't let me go LOL!

They also don't go more than 5 years between rings.

That was before Bloom hit town. Irrelevant now!

The sad thing is, if we had won the last 2 games, we'd be in this thing.

Resolve to the fact we are not a playoff team, we are going no place and other weak teams around us are playing better. I don't care how many prospects we have, they are not proven and don't know their future, you can grow a beard waiting for some to develop.

And some never develop at all.

1. I resolved that fact long before most, here. (Not bragging. It sucks that I felt this way, long ago.)

2. It matters how many and how good your prospects are. Every winning Sox team from the past had some awesome homegrown talent, that at some point, many fans did not care about as their beards grew fully.

3. Maybe none or not enough of DD's and Bloom's prospects amount to anything decent or amazing, but we are NOT ever going to win again, unless and until they do.

I don't get all the malaise about farm-building. It's the key to success and the cornerstone of continued success. For those of you who like to hear things straight from the moths of players, managers and GMs, find me one GM who states otherwise.

Keeping HOF talent like Mookie, Bogey, and Raffy to start is the way to start. You shouldn’t be bragging you bought into the Fantasy month of June, and was giving daily wildcard standings updates, and saying 1 game at a time, so I don’t know what long ago is to you.

This loss goes to Eovaldi. He hasn't been the same since coming off the IL, and it's just one more thing that's hurting us...

He looked good at Houston, but outside of that no he hasn’t. To many gopher balls this year.

no championship team is built 100% off the farm, veteran players are needed not only for performance but for morale which everybody overlooks, the farm has to stay rep[lenished so the good can be separated from the bad but performing in between is important

Agree. The farm should not be the #1 option, but just a part of the process. Keeping homegrown stars, trades, and FA should all be parts of the equation.

No doubt. Every Sox ring team included big ticket FAs or trade additions, but without a strong farm, the cost of filling too many open slots with FAs becomes counter-productive, and it seems like Henry is not into becoming a bigger spender than he has been already.

You can't build up the farm with just draft picks and IFA signings, unless you are really good at it.

The strategy has been to add prospects via trades like Ottavino and German, Wink and 3 others for Beni, 2 with JBJ for Renfroe and 2 for Vaz and 2 for Hosmer while giving up 1 in Groome.

Whether Bloom chose the prospects wisely remains to be proven, but clearly that has been the strategy of Sox management, and I have to believe Henry is supporting or even led the way for the shift from DD's style to Bloom's style of team building.

Thanks to the annual cost ($63M) of Price, Sale, and Eovaldi, Mookie became unaffordable. Indeed, part of the deal was sending Price to the Dodgers to lighten the salary burden to $16M/year.

Since then, just 2 freaking years ago, prices have gone up. Soto just turned down $440M (from the Nats) as an insult, so it's reasonable to think that Bogey wants at least $250M to stay--and Raffy $500M. As moonslav has pointed out, there will be some salary space after this year, but will it be enough?

Also, because so far the Sox farm system has yet to produce viable replacements--so far only Winckowski looks competitive at this level--it seems likely Bloom will need to keep looking for bargains.

I could care less if JH would have to shell out $500M for payroll, and probably most of the season ticket holders, and everyone else who pay those high ticket prices do either. I know some on here worry about it, but not me.

Actually, you should care because JH, aided and abetted by Bloom, Cora, and anyone else he listens to, is the guy who decides whether to shell out or not.

If you go back and look at the 2018 roster, you will find a ton of talent on that team, including Mookie, Bogey, and Raffy, who were playing at bargain rates. Ditto Beni, JBJ, Brock Holt, Moreland, and Vazquez. All DD had to do was go out and buy Porcello, Price, Sale, and Kimbrel. ERod and Kelly were also bargains.

I don't worry about it. I don't even think about it. Because I know it ain't happening.

I suspect you are one of those who believe that JH should spend whatever it takes because he's so rich (a billionaire) and can afford it. Well guess what? He got rich because he knows how to turn a profit, which is what he has done assiduously with the Sox since he bought them. Their overall resale value has skyrocketed. Plus of course the four WS titles. Along the way, John Henry and whatever team he has working for him have been more than willing to let players, even good ones, go: Manny; Lester; Beckett; Lackey; AGon; Ellsbury; Reddick; Iglesias; Beni; Mookie. He kept Big Papi because Ortiz was in fact a bargain. So was Pedroia until the injury. Price was not. Ellsbury was not, but the Yankees had to learn that.

One more time, my favorite tune--big salary packages rarely pay off for the simple reason that most often a player's best years are before he gets that huge contract. I think Mike Trout is clearly an exception despite the recent setback (which could be permanent). And there are others, but not many.
