You can go by the nerdy numbers, I'll go by what I've seen all season.

I think Dugo did again what you called out over the weekend, and that is admiring the parabolic arc of the ball's flight from the vantage point of the LH batter's box. Failing to proceed in an easterly direction before a sharp turn northward at 1B. The hit was great, anytime A Sox LH'er uses the wall it's good, but AD is missing a few synapses that many ballplayers have.

If I could take any player in MLB and have him sign 5 years with the SOX, it would be Jose Ramirez.

You mean to cover the 3B gap in 2024 when Raffy signs with Cleveland ?

Ramirez could wear Raffy's uni since they are about the same size.

Surprised Cora hasn't noticed that; actually, I'm not surprised.

Men on first and third, no one out. Can't they even make contact?

Apparently not, OT. One of the most frustrating things about 2022, and true for multiple batters including Vazquez, Bogaerts, and JDM over the range of the season. We aren't talking about actual hits, just a flyball, opposite side groundbal, some indication that you can hit the ball

Nerdy numbers? I can also go by what I see too. He sucks defensively and also at baserunning.

You keep going by your RBIs and ignore the rest

The SOX already have both Bogey and JD ignoring RBI this season, so I've decided not to ignore RBI.

Ohtani. Devers. Tatis. Acuna.

I didn't mention Devers because he is already on the SOX. Sorry for the confusion. And I mentioned 5 years so that age wouldn't be a factor. Ohtani would also be a great 5 year pick-up. He's the same age as Ramirez.

The reason I gave the edge to Ramirez is because with Ohtani there's a bigger risk of injury.

Great win, well earned.

My thanks moonslav and Thunder for emphasizing the positive on page 1 of this game thread.

As bad as this line-up looks, I’m feeling the win vibe for the first time in weeks.

Just a feeling. Absolutely no logic involved.

I had a gut feeling about Pivetta. He seems to be very good at bearing down after a rough 2-3 games. I wish he could bear down after a rough inning and skip a step.

Not complaining. I'm happy we got Pivetta for a few more years.

Nice win to stay above 500. But I'm still not convinced as it's another win against against a weak team.

I know I'm beating the dead horse but having Whitlock what he did last night at the start of the year we would have a different record right now. Probably 5 more wins

Verdugo has 50 RBIs because he bats behind the best part of the lineup. Some stats you choose to ignore for example runs scored. Verdugo doesn't have many of those because does get on base much. JD and XB have manufactured more runs and they make less outs to keep the lineup moving for people like Verdugo

Verdugo can't score any runs because of the anemic bats behind him hitting 7th, 8th and 9th.

Are you ignoring the fact that Bogey has 10 more PAs with men on base than Verdugo but 14 less RBI with men on base? Also, although Verdugo has 17 more PAs with men on base than JD, he has 16 more RBI in those PAs.

How about just runners in scoring position, only?

PAs- RBI

117- 34 Bogey

114- 37 Verdugo

110- 30 JD

Here, the gap is lower, but still shows Verdugo with more RBI per PA than our two studs.

Here is an interesting stat: man on 1B (alone):

PAs- RBI

85-1 Bogey (0 HR)

78-12 Verdugo (4 HR)

75-15 Devers (6 HR)

72-5 Story (2 HR)

65-3 JD (1 HR)

RBIs are largely a result of how often and how many men are on base in front of you, you still have to knock them in. Dugo has done that more than JD & Bogey.

True, but Vaz, JBJ and Cordero have much better RBI per PA with RISP and men on base than JD and Bogey.

Dalbec and others have been pathetic in these areas.

RISP

PAs- RBIs

90-30 Vaz

56-20 Cordero

81-27 JBJ

85-15 Dalbec

38-7 Arroyo

24-6 Duran

24-3 Plawecki

Men on Base

131-33 Vaz

124-27 JBJ

102-23 Cordero

128-16 Dalbec

51-11 Arroyo

46-6 Duran

43-5 Plawecki

Absolutely, but I think it's been proven that hitting better with men on base is one of those "unrepeatable skills" - it's a random variance.

SSS. I think think there's lots of noise that contributes to this. If there's a guy rounding 3rd and you know JD is up next, you're more likely to hold them than if you know Arroyo or Plawecki is up next.

I totally agree, but that does not lessen the need to hit with men on, and those that don't are open to criticism.

(Just don't call them "chokes.")

Of course, it's a small sample size, and I'm not making a point the Bogey and JD are chokes. I don't even believe in "clutch" as a skill.

The fact is, JD and Bogey have not delivered, when needed, this year. Verdugo and others have done better or much better.

I'm not implying anything beyond that.

Provided that the sox would have won the games he was a starter.....
