When Brasier reached 20 pitches, the end was nigh, wherever nigh is. A stupid pickoff attempt was pointless

The relay from JBJ to Sanchez earlier in the game was almost a perfect replication of how the Cards' Enos Slaughter scored the winning run in the 7th game of the 1946 WS against the SOX. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

0-11-1 in the division this year, 3-12 in last 15 , just no end to this tunnel of losses. I think there is a realistic chance that Cora goes out with the selloff of barn wood. Maybe give the remnants to TEK for the remainder of the season just to get their attention.

This team is pathetic with the payroll that they have. Inexcusable really

Look at the dead money once again , I consider Sale's 2022 money as dead as David Price's final year. That's pretty close to $47 million for pitching that that didn't happen in Boston. They truly need to clear the decks through the end of this year.

Speaking of Sale, try this on for size . His surgically repaired little finger will recover in terms of the fracture, although knowing sale it will take longer than expected, maybe all the way until it's time to go to Toronto again .OOPS, not allowed in.

The finger and joint will be stiff and probably sensitive, like Chris himself. Although gripping the ball to pitch a FB, slider, etc doesn't normally involve the little finger, it does affect the change up grip. Chris will be concious of the finger and make some modification of his throwing and not be the same Freak we all know and love. To me he is already effectively out for the balance of '22 . The question will remain whether he will be any part of the pitcher he once was in '23. OR could Chaim find a GM who would take Sale for next year ( now or over the winter) and pay us off with a starter and position player of some skill ? Or is 2 more years of dead money with this guy?

Ace Cora's contract ends this year . Only the Club holds options for '23/'24 so they don't need to fire him. I believe he's a deadman walking. The players will know that too.

He'll probably manage? til the end of this season, but I do like the idea of V-tek taking over after the TDL.

A quality start by Kutter today, but with the SOX only having 2 reliable relievers, getting thru the 9th is a bridge too far.

crawford let up 3 in 6 IP and left down 3-1.

The pen let up 1 run in 3 IP. I know our pen has sucked, but let’s save it for the games that they deserve it.

Bra Man gave up the one run and that's who I was referring to. If you're gonna defend Bra Man, then you might as well defend all the other driftwood on this team.

And the 2 reliable relievers I was referring to are Schreiber and Houck who gave up no runs, which is not unusual for both.

Oops, I left off Whitlock as reliable; forgot he was back in the pen.

Well, I think we can safely call today's game a success and put to rest the fears of getting beat every night by 10 or more runs.

I'm less sure the Sox will actually start winning games, but at least we can look forward to losing respectably.

Also worth noting: no fly balls lost in the lights; nobody picked off 3d base with no one out; Dalbec, our main man for the future, parked one; Crawford had a quality start against a good Jays lineup (who might have been exhausted from all the running around the bases last night); Brasier gave up just 1 run and should probably get a bonus.

I hate to mention it, but once again an opposing baserunner scored from first base on a single. Actually, I think I should now say that for this Sox team that's a tough play to make and we can only hope to keep those guys to just getting to 3d base. And, no, we can't expect our own players to get from 1st to 3d on a single to right, nor that they should scored from 2d base on a single. Baby steps.

Really embarrassing. You can’t tell me this team can’t be more competitive than what they have showned? They just going through the motions without any care in the world.

Glad I missed yet another loss. Didn’t want to waste my time watching these bums today. Just a game over .500 now. On our way to the cellar.

Can we PLEASE get rid of Bogaerts;who isn’t coming back next year anyway)? And fire Cora. He doesn’t have his team ready to play any more. That’s a start.

Manoah still has me pissed off. I would start Brasier or Hernandez tomorrow. Vlad Jr. gets nailed in his first AB. He’s been a dick every time something comes close to a Jays hitter anyway and he’s been that way for a couple of years now. If said starter doesn’t get tossed, hit the next guy too. Then Bello can come in.

Thing was, it wasn’t Sanchez’s fault. He’s properly in position to take the relay and throw to second, which would be normal on that play (especially given it’s Chapman running, not exactly prime Usain Bolt). On the replay you can here somebody (I assume Vaz or Bogie) yell “4” about when the ball hits his glove. That’s way too late for Sanchez to change his feet and make the throw.

I agree. I miss the days of Pedro Martinez. He wouldn't let this s*** fly. He would go in and hit both vladdy and whoever else back to back and then strike out the side to get out of it.

This team is soft and probably won't do anything tomorrow

My thing is what is this franchise doing ? Do they wanna be a small market team and rebuild? I mean their payroll is 200 million and every time they take the field they look defeated and don’t care. They have players but it seems this team doesn’t produce them like you want especially the pitching .

“It’s the most helpless feeling you could ever feel,” Duran said. “Until you guys catch a fly ball in twilight, let me know.”

He was fine with the first part. That last part tells me he won't make it in Boston. The one thing you can't do is piss off the media against you. And fact, Mr. Duran, a lot of us have caught fly balls at twilight in far worse conditions than you will ever see at a major league park. No, the balls we caught didn't go as high or as far, but none of us have your athletic ability.

Players lose balls in those conditions; rational fans can accept that. What they can't accept is the lack of effort afterwards.

SI left out the part of the quote where he asked if the press were better defenders.

”I just lost it in the twilight,” he said, via Christopher Smith of MassLive. “It’s the most helpless feeling you could ever feel.”

As for why he didn’t hustle to get the ball when he noticed where it landed, Duran said left fielder*Alex Verdugo*was closer to the ball and he didn’t want to get in the way.

“Dugie was right there already,” he said. “Obviously I should have taken a step or two. But he was already going to beat me to the ball so I just didn’t want to get in his way. What if I sprinted and collided with him or something like that? But next time I know to take one or two steps. But he was already going to beat me to the ball.”

It looked far worse on camera, since Verdugo was not on screen when the ball landed well past where Duran was standing. And continued standing.

But for all of you who wondered why the Sox re-acquired Bradley, now you’ve seen it…

According to B-R, the Sox payroll for 2022 is $182 million*, and currently has $93 on the Injured List. Per that same source, 10 teams in MLB have entire payrolls less than $93mill…

*I’m fairly certain payroll numbers from B-R are just aggregate salary totals for the year and not AAV numbers used for luxury tax purposes…

And to add to the frustration of faux genius Cora's managing is that not only is Ref a better hitter than Duran, he's better defensively.

Cora doesn't have much to work with these days, but Refsnyder is one of the only guys who's doing anything. I would have DH'd him instead of Franchy.

Not long ago we had the best outfield in baseball that really helped us win a championship we should be grateful we have a management team that can't build a bridge with an erector set, Cora is not a motivator period, maybe they can keep the beer cold in Fenway

I didn't blame Sanchez. I blame the coaches and manager--and maybe the Sox farm system--for not developing smarter players.

Can you or anyone else on talksox remember when a Sox player scored from first base on a single without an error being committed?

Chaim Bloom was one of the originators--he wrote their "book"--of the Rays system for finding and especially training/developing good baseball talent. When they play the Sox, they look like the professional ballplayers and the Sox don't.

I would even argue that what made Mookie Betts so great was the very short time he spent in the stupid Red Sox minor league system, where he was almost always an infielder. He pretty much became a great outfielder and hitter on his own.

Same goes for Rafael Devers, a terrific talent, especially at the plate--and you can be sure nobody in the Sox system taught him how to hit. He is still learning how to play 3B. My guess is he lost weight because his agent told him that it would guarantee megabucks. And once he signs for the big bucks, the weight will come back unless the contract prohibits it (which I consider unlikely).
