We need to only use Houck, Strahm and Schreiber in these situations, even if it means using the clowns in high leverage 7th and 8th inning roles.

I still blame Bloom for the 9th inning meltdowns, he never gave Cora a legitimate closer to start the season, and it has cost the sox many games

That is Robles 4th blown save

No sense of surprise at that. Robles walked, got walked on and then walked off by the Punch and Judy show. He was a loser coming through the door

So Cora goes with the guy who has 3 blown saves coming into this. Cora is an idiot. Almost anybody was a better option. Valdez is a better option.

The drunk fat guy in the stands is a better option. Cora is a f***ing moron with the bullpen. He’s a good manager. But when it comes to the bullpen he’s insanely stupid. Always has been and always will be.

Because BP's are a major part of modern baseball, a moron at handling the BP would pretty much, imho, disqualify him from being a good manager. But I could be wrong.

Ya fair enough. I just wish we had a reliable closer.

Who was the guy that used to pitch for the jays and Astros? Can’t we get him. I’m seriously drawing a blank on his name. But he would be good. Not having a reliable closer is going to kill us

Putting that IPad to good use. And we thought he was looking at videos of pitchers and previous ABs.

I wanted Houck to pitch the 9th

I wanted Houck to pitch the 9th

Cora said after the game that Houck had never pitched in back to back games before, so they have to build him up for that. I guess 22 pitches the night before was to many pitches, and they had decided before the game that Houck would be unavailable.

Ken Giles? A recent Over the Mountain podcast mentioned Giles, who is expected to come off Seattle's IL, as a potential Red Sox trade target.

Seattle has designated for assignment reliever Drew Steckenrider, who has a 2.63 ERA and 16 saves since the start of the 2021 season.

If you are referring to Roberto Osuna, I don’t want that piece of s*** human anywhere near the Sox roster

To me the significance of Houck the night before was that he needed 22 freaking pitches to get 3 outs. Plus he gave up a hit and the final out was a scorcher Story caught--a save by the skin of his teeth. Houck has been pretty good this season, especially in longer relief and in the middle innings; but Friday night was hardly the debut of a great closer.

As for Robles pitching the 9th and blowing a 1 run lead and the game last night, I agree it was horrible, terrible, ugly, you name it.

But guess what? Going into last night's game his ERA was 2.37, 4th best on the Sox pitching staff. Plus Robles actually has previous experience as a closer. Cora has given about six thousand guys chances to close games this year, and all of them stunk. About 3 weeks ago (May 24), Barnes actually did get a save after pitching a clean 9th inning. However, on two of his three outs the Mariners hit the ball really hard, but right at someone.

Right now I simply don't see a bonafide closer on this team. Houck could start, but I like him as a long reliever and do not yet see him as a closer. Whitlock has never demonstrated he's a closer even though he's your personal choice.

Bottom line: this weak bullpen, including its lack of a closer, is on Bloom. Oh, and how about a little blame for the actual relievers on the mound who blew all those save opportunities?

If this team had a great closer they would have probably 5 more wins than they have now, if not more.

Pretty hard to dispute that.
