Dick Radatz had some really good years for the Red Sox and he was MLB's first real relief pitcher.

Yup, and he was soon followed by the Yankems' Ryne Duran, he of the bottle neck glasses, which many of his contemporaries believed were nothing but a psychological prop. He always threw his last warm-up pitch up against the netting behind home plate.More psychology.

Mike Fornieles would like to discuss this further! (He, I see, began his career as a starter, but in the last six or seven years, late 50s--that's when I followed him--he pitched exclusively in relief.). And yes Ryne Duran was a hoot!

Speaking of pitching in regards to SOX and Yankems, Whitey Ford had a career record at Fenway of 7-6 with an ERA of 6.16. So for a large part of his career Whitey, under Stengel's watch, wasn't allowed to pitch at Fenway.

The SOX great LH, Mel Parnell, otoh, had very little problem pitching at Fenway.

Are people starting to believe that this team has turned a corner? I'll keep saying it every day if I have to

They may indeed have turned a corner when AC shaved.

So, Franchy has really cut down on his strikeouts. Good things happen when you put the ball in play.

He's actually been drawing walks, and while I think OPS is an overrated stat in the launch-angle era (all-or-nothing swings contradict patience), free passes can actually mean something in rallies when more guys than the stars in the heart of the order are hitting -- or at least making contact.

Maybe we are heavy on warm-weather hitters.

I touched on this, a while ago, especially with guys like Dalbec & Kike, and Renfroe, last year.

i like him. Give me him over Tony Maz.

I think the part about what a good-looking guy Bogaerts is and how he would love to be the umpire checking his hands ... I found that a little much.
