Eovaldi vs. Anderson, both righties.

I expect the same lineup as last night with the only question being whether Plawecki goes in to catch ace Eovaldi.

Plawecki caught Eovaldi in his last two outings, April 30 vs. the Orioles when Eovaldi pitched 7 scoreless innings and May 6 vs. the White Sox when Eovaldi went 5 innings giving up 3 runs. The Sox lost both games.

I think Plawecki calls a better game, but Vazquez's WAR is +.2 and Plawecki's is -.7. Vazquez's OPS is a lousy .556, and Plawecki's is much worse, .290.

I knew that Ian Anderson could play many different instruments but I didn't know he could pitch too! ;)

Remember the Mendoza line?

Six of the Sox 9 hitters last night have these batting averages: Verdugo .213, Enrique .168, Story .204, JBJ .195, Vazquez .215, and Cordero .222. When you add up their hits and divide by their at bats, their combined batting average is .199.

I don't think WAR factors in how well pitchers do with one catcher vs the other, and only a few posters seem to care or think it matters.

I think the new OPS Mendoza line is .600 not .700, and too many Sox players are pushing .400's.

I agree WAR is separate from how well pitchers do with catchers. But I included it because it might justify staying with Vazquez tonight.

You don't have to convince me.

While I agree OPS is a better stat than mere batting average, I just like the idea of batting less than .200. Crash Davis says 1 hit more a week gets you from .250 to .300 for a season, but that also means one less hit per week drops you to .200.

According to espn stats, 149 MLB hitters are at or above OPS .600 and 158 MLB hitters have batting averages of .200 or better. So this year OPS .600 is a slightly tougher (and more comprehensive) standard.

Let's just call these guys what they are (or will be, once Bloom gets rid of Bogey, Devers and JD): our "core." Just think how formidable they will be when joined by the boat-load of untested prospects we are so excited about getting.

Rally sons of Notre Dame

Sing her glory and sound her fame

Raise her Gold and Blue

And cheer with voices true:

Rah, rah, for Notre Dame

We will fight in every game,

Strong of heart and true to her name

We will ne'er forget her

And will cheer her ever

Loyal to Notre Dame.

Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame,

Wake up the echoes cheering her name,

Send a volley cheer on high,

Shake down the thunder from the sky!

What though the odds be great or small,

Old Notre Dame will win over all,

While her loyal sons are marching

Onward to victory!

Nothing better than when Judge played New York, New York in Boston. How did that story end?

Not very well.

I thought it was a dumb idea at the time and still think so.

Probably a dumb idea, but the player is great fun to watch--quick and agile in the outfield, excellent arm, very good bat.

I like New York, New York more than Sweet Caroline, but the movie Fever Pitch redresses that imbalance.

He's definitely an exciting player to watch.

Some of the beach bars that I frequent have live music and whenever we have some tourons here from the boston area they always request sweet caroline.

It's like nails down a chalkboard to the civilized ear IMO.

Tune every heart and every voice,

Bid every care withdraw;

Let all with one accord rejoice,

In praise of Old Nassau.

In praise of Old Nassau we sing,

Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!

Our hearts will give, while we shall live,

Three cheers for Old Nassau.

Wow. Cora did it: Plawecki in for Vazquez to get the most out of our ace. Rest of the lineup is same as last night--

Enrique

Devers

JDM

Bogey

Verdugo

Story

Cordero

Plawecki

JBJ

Last night my TBS channel was blocked because they were showing the Sox game, and MLB's blackout rules decree I can't watch the Sox playing the Orioles, Nationals, or Braves because I live in Greensboro, NC.

I always turn the sound off when music comes on: S.C. is one of the worst. Close behind the SSpBanner. But the absolute worst, particularly when you're at the park and everyone expects you to stand and get all weepy chauvinistic is God Bl A.
