Hunter Renfroe's current fWAR of 1.2 would place him 4th among Red Sox position players.

That’s also a great argument for how bad this team would still be even if they kept him.

To think this team was just Renfroe or Suzuki and Jansen away from a ring is a joke.

Agree. This team lacks depth of talent, and I'm not talking about talent at the level of Devers/Bogaerts or even Story or JDM.

There are big holes in the lineup, especially with RISP, weak spots in the defense and when running the bases, a rotation in shreds, and a bullpen that struggles even with Whitlock, Houck, and Schreiber.

As I said elsewhere, it does not help that John Henry is paying Eovaldi, Sale, and Price a total of $63M, in return for which their combined WAR as pitchers is +0.7 (.6 for Eovaldi and .1 for Sale).

No debate.

They’d be 1.7 games better…

59 was one of the ones that didn’t think Renfroe, was good enough, or worth another contract in Boston. Maybe he could go work as one of Bloom’s assistants.

All this over 1.7, and no hopes for Binelas or Hamilton.

Again, all these analytical numbers that are posted are supposed to justify a player being traded? 1.7 lmfao!

Power bat power arm in RF with 30 hr power and your going to deal him because of a win number ratio?

59, if you don’t have a good shrink to talk with, I can refer you to one

Binelas strike out ratio is through the roof, see Dalbec and Hamilton is 25 in AA. Beer leaguers

Bloom should be fired over this deal alone

He’s not defending the trade, he’s merely pointing out that Hunter Renfroe on this team doesn’t change its reality that they’re flawed and not a playoff team right now.

You keep on changing the argument to fit your little temper tantrum. We get it, bloom make bad trade

Not acquiring another outfielder, preferably a right handed one, was rather questionable to me.

The questionable move last year was having Cordero be the everyday LFer on Opening Day. Thankfully, Kiké moved into CF and fixed the OF by May.

Franchy and Duran were always options.

For an immediate in game need, Arroyo was an acceptable emergency play…

It wasn’t an emergency, it was the plan. It wasn’t due to injury or something unforeseen.

It’s why he and Red are in ignore.

I was firmly against the Renfroe trade from day one, and caught s*** for weeks for daring to say it was a head scratcher.

These guys’ memories are worse than their logic

Read my post Hugo, I state facts and the facts are undisputed

Again, put your finger in one ear and listen, if AB and Renfro were not traded you have 2 legit OF’s, Hernandez in CF gets hurt you only have to replace 1 player not 3 referring to this season

There is no logic in any of the moves Orlando has made , zero

If you believe he’s the next Epstein ( 3 titles) your mistaken

Renfroe isn't exactly Lou Gehrig, especially this year.

In other order of ideas seems like JD slow bat Martinez is going to end up something around 750 as I predicted.

He’s very gone.

Regarding Renfore, yeah it was a dumb trade from the beginning. JBJ sucks.

Said that we’ll see how Bloom builds this team next season. Won’t be excuses next year.

Houston just got Mancini from Baltimore. He is a real pro and would have been an ideal guy for us at 1st base this year. Keeping Renfroe and picking up Mancini early on would have given us a better shot at the playoffs this year. Here we are watching other teams get better and nothing from Bloom as yet. I believe Moon also wanted Mancini early on but no such luck.

Mancini is role model and character guy in addition to being a good player. Bloom doesn't go in for character guys.

Why would we trade for a rental 1B in a year we have almost no shot of winning the WS? Why waste assets that could be spent plugging holes at SP and OF? especially with Casas coming to town.

Mancini would be the ideal move if the Sox had a much better July.

Posted

The other teams who are already much better than us are also getting better. The season is lost, time to build for next year.

I’d be fine if the Sox were buyers if they would go after players with multiple years of control. That’s fine, but this is not the year to be buying rentals.

I don’t think you are following mate. It was an off-season scenario entering 2022. With Mancini and Renfroe this team would have gotten what? At very least 7 more wins?
