Reading that Craig Breslow is a serious candidate? Wtf?

It's at least a double bump in positions, but much less than handing the reigns to Gabe Kapler. Breslow also said he'll only take the job if nobody is above him.

Seems like Henry has serious budget issues.

No, the size of this FO is really large compared to others. Henry just has the guys he likes and doesn't want them to leave the org. The issue is that a new CBO wants to be able to have some autonomy and they won't get that here. They'll just be a cog in the machine and blamed if it goes wrong.

Can't believe how many baseball execs have families!

... really, it's only been a few decades since Theo was the youngest GM ever.

Before Epstein, the Old Boy Network of Empty Nesters ruled the majors for too long.

If only some candidate would say he's declining because of No f***ing Way Do I Want to be Henry's Next Sacrificial Lamb Considerations.

Baaaaaah -- four years living in Boston, running the Red Sox! What youngish baseball-lifer-wannabe can turn that down.

They need to stop recruiting Ivy League elitists and scour the community colleges instead. There are plenty of capables who would jump at the chance -- and probably never lose the energy or the buzz for the job.

But on a serious note, setting the money aside, does any rational being want to go through what Bloom went through? Your boss is an impatient, mercurial prick, and the customers are demanding and crazy.

Not to mention the media. Bloom was never ready for Boston.

I think Bloom handled those things okay. The problem was strictly that the team didn't win.

Which specific things did he handle ok?

Ever try sifting rapid-fire through bargain bins? Those plastic lid handles have to click shut, lest moths sneak in and chew holes in the fabrics.

What I would give to Bloom:

He drafted better than Ben and Dave.

He built up the farm substantially.

He never got absolutely washed in a trade.

He did a decent job with the pen in '23 after it struggling previously.

Outside of some childlike enthusiasm and possible over communication issues, Bloom was fine with the media…

He actually has a decent success rate of the scrap heap. However he did appear to get too reliant on it and was slow to give up on pieces that were clearly not working…

Did he really though? He churned so many guys off the scrap heap that I'm not sure his % would be higher than some other GM.

How about this?

Who related better with the media?

JH?

Kennedy?

Bloom?

Grimma Sam Wormtongue for sure. That's the only reason he's employed.

He was in charge when a trio of prospects were developed by his people to make solid contributions to the big league team.

He acquired another trio of bargains who were really good for one season or stretch drive: a reliever, a power hitter, and a starting pitcher...

... the problem is that he only signed one longterm, Whitlock, and let Schwarber and Wacha walk away. This was very uncharacteristic of any Red Sox team during modern times -- to find an obvious fits to the puzzle, then leave them out and try to frame the picture with holes in it.

And the worst thing he'll always be remembered for isn't three last place losers; it's Mookie Betts. It ultimately doesn't matter if it's the owner's fault or the player's fault -- it happened on Chaim Bloom's watch.

Players plural. Sox need to sign Imanaga or Maeda quick, before the Mets, Cubs, Orioles, or Blue Jays do…

Maybe he should stay where he is then. Plenty of Japanese players there.

I told them to lock up Imanaga the day he posts... and hire Koji as a bullpen coach... and DiceK as a gyropopcorn vendor.
