Don't worry, there's plenty of Bloom bashing here too. This is page 732 of the Fire Bloom thread, after all.

Even the "apologists" complain about the dumb s*** the FO has done. I guess it just hasn't been ENOUGH?

Having anything good to say is being a "Bloom apologist" even though most of us wouldn't grade him higher than a C and wouldn't be upset if he was fired. Ok.

Kind of like any kind of criticism is a basher, or god forbid a hater.

The "apologist" term came around long before people were hot and bothered about bashing. The only thing people ever asked was for people to name who the specific apologists were, but nobody would ever say which posters were the apologists. Why complain about certain posters and posting behavior without saying who they are? It's so weird.

Bash him all you want. You do it anyway. We all do it. Who hasn't bashed him about something? When it comes around to this offseason, the team will make some more weird decisions and we'll all dogpile on them again.

I agree I have heard the so called Bloom supporters all criticizing Bloom at some point, and hard to believe that I have praised Bloom a time, or two. I said it at the time that he did a good job of fixing the backend of the BP with Martin, and Jansen.

The general consensus seemed to be in the offseason:

Bullpen - Good job!

Starting Rotation - What the f***? It would only work out if Sale, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta, Kluber and Paxton all stayed healthy. It had a 25% chance of working?

Offense - Fine? SS was a huge question mark, but everything else seemed to be ok enough. Turner was a decent pickup, but older. Masa was taking a big chance on an unknown. Aside from the glaring hole at SS, it was ok. If Kiké had just had an average year, it would have prevented a lot of frustration.

If Kike had been average defensively, this team might have been in possession of a WC slot right now.

Agree, and the starting rotation has always been a big question of health. I know many on here wanted the Sox go out, and get a SS after Bogey left, and keep Story at 2B! and it hindsight that would have been the best way to go.

True dat... or, as many of us blabbed on and on, even before the season began, if only Bloom had actually acquired a healthy, average, legitimate big league shortstop

You mean like Story, or Chang?

He had a very special defensive season. One for the ages!

So like the Platinum Glove is to the Gold Glove, the Kike award is to the Iron Mitt?

Posted
Story? We're talking about after they knew he would be out most of the season.

Wasn't the offseason pretty advanced by that point? And didn't they also get Mondesi Jr. under the idea that he'd be ready by Opening Day?

Erases the memories of Rent-a-wreck.

Andrus and Iglesias were available for very little money. It was Bloom who decided to give Kike a whirl.

Kike was option D. And haven't Andrus and Iglesias not worked out at all?

They didn't acquire Chang until Spring Training and well after Story had his surgery. Is Change an average SS? At best, he's a 0.5 fWAR guy fulltime? Is that average?

Bloom had decent options, is the point, but decided to roll the dice instead. You just said yourself Kike cost us about 5 games this year. Are you saying that isn't on Bloom?

How was Yu Chang seen as a decent SS option this offseason? He had less than 200 career MLB innings at SS prior to this season.

I was referring to the options of Andrus and Iglesias.

Iglesias hasn't sniffed the majors and Andrus has been really bad.

The cheap options have worked out poorly. Unless they were nabbing Dansby, we were going to be disappointed with the SS output from our new SS FA. They weren't going to get Dansby though.

The comments and reactions on here are comparatively mild and polite when you look at X ( fka Twitter ) . Sox fans on a rampage and looking for blood.

Also a lot milder on here than the Newspapers, the airwaves, or the street too. I just heard that Pap was ripping Bloom on the postgame yesterday. If he was good for him.

Papelbon was so critical that it would be surprising to ever see him back on NESN. But he was so refreshing, I'm going to tune back in, hoping to see him again (ratings) -- especially as a foil to all the other company mouthpieces.

Sorry I missed it. TC must have been aghast.

Papi was beating up on the FO hard on a newspaper here, but he was articulate and made sense. Papelbon is a ****.
