You get real. Even though we post about it daily, baseball hasn't been the national pastime for decades. The list of most profitable sports teams is being discussed right now on a Boston sports talkshow, and the Top 10 is entirely NFL, NBA and European Soccer.

Dallas Cowboys are #1, the Patriots are second, and Henry and Warner's Liverpool team is 12th. That's their money-maker.

That is absolutely untrue. Baseball economics are rooted against a big market team like the Red Sox making real money unless they make the playoffs. The rest of your post doesn't even make sense because it doesn't pertain to the same sport. If the Sox had the Royals' payroll, maybe it would make sense to build a team that doesn't make the playoffs, but the Red Sox are very much not the Royals.

If Liverpool was so profitable, why was Henry thinking of selling a portion of it recently?

That was the prevailing theory. Marlins were looking to deal. Bloom was willing to risk the prospects taking a step backwards and his FA's going nowhere. I haven't been happy with any of his offseasons. His one successful year is largely due to his predecessor and the team getting hot in September.

The Marlins dealt an increasingly costly pitcher for a reigning batting champ. Not sure we could top that. BTV had Lopez and Casas as roughly equal. Should Bloom have pulled the trigger? ( Assuming Miami was interested in Casas.)

Lord no, not my boy Casas.

I keep hearing now is not the time to go all in, so my big question what are we going to wait for, and how long are we just going to just be hovering around last place, and get back to relevance like the Red Sox use to be. Still a long way to go this season, but another dismal last place finish would be 3-4, and 6 out of the last 12. Are we waiting for Casas, Mayer, and whoever else to lead us to the promise land? Something that may never happen. I’ve said from day 1 of Bloom being hired that he was not going to be good, and now this is year 4 of his so called regime, and except for maybe a higher farm ranking I don’t think this team is any closer to the top then it was 4 years ago. Things aren’t awesome although some were getting pretty giddy on here when the Red Sox were going through their winning streak, which now seems like a long time ago. Bloom to me brings nothing, but gloom, and doom. Instead of someone saying Mookie who, which was said recently during the past Winning streak, but Bloom who.

Then Cora is a/the problem…

Cora is still living off the 2018 team. Even though I like Cora as I have stated before I wouldn’t have hired him back in the first place.

Maybe to make a killing on the difference for his purchase price? Don't ask me, I'd rather watch my garden grow than 22 runners chasing a ball for an hour of no scoring.

It wouldn't have been one for one, it would have been Rafaela PLUS others for Lopez or someone else.

If you're going to trade an elite prospect, it needs to be for a top of the rotation guy. Lopez seems to at least be a #2.

Maybe he thinks it’s time. He’s a commodities guy - his first words as a baby were probably “Sell high! Buy low!”

So Casas and Rafaela for Lopez? Was Lopez was under contract through 2024 at the time? (Minnesota has extended him since.)

I like Lopez, but he does seem to struggle as the year goes on…

Last winter that cost seemed higher than now... to fans like us of a club that sometimes seems to overrate its prospects.

Although one guy not overhyped was Mookie, who came out of nowhere and moved fast through the minors... just like Ceddanne did last season.

If a team is going to sign Kluber, that team better have a damn good defense.

No. That team better have 60 foot high walls in the outfield. We know 37 feet high isn’t enough…

It's because you should turn your radio down. Liverpool isn't nearly as profitable as WEEI would like you to believe. They say that because it leads to a narrative that Henry cares more about Liverpool than the Sox. Ask Liverpool fans how they feel about Henry. They really despise the guy!

Did I say Casas AND Rafaela for Lopez? I don't know if it would have taken that much as your previous post stated.

Wait, are you comparing Rafaela to Betts?

Btw, if bringing up how well JD, EO, and Wacha are doing this year, it's only fair to mention how poorly Bogey is doing.

He started off HOT! 590 OPS since 4/18 though. Battling through a wrist injury. We've seen that Xander before.

People really forget what he did in '13 and '14 in the minors.

'13 Low A 76 G, 895 OPS

'13 High A 51 G, 965 OPS

'14 AA 54 G, 994 OPS

'14 AAA 45 G, 920 OPS

Rafaela is NOT doing that. He's OLDER than Mookie was. He's now had 116 G at AA. He's currently hitting 716 for POR.

Nobody as ill-informed as me could ever make such an outlandish judgement. Maybe the experts at Baseball America can, since it's their job to evaluate minor leaguers.

Betts was once named Offensive Player of the Year and Breakout Player of the Year in Boston's minor league system, and a minor league All-Star by Baseball America... the same publication that named Rafaela the 2022 Red Sox Minor League Player of the Year.

I might have misunderstood. When you said it couldn’t be one-for-one and then added Rafaela, I thought you meant with Casas, not in place of him.

Of course the Marlins have gaps at both positions (1b and CF), so either option makes sense…

Bloom apparently likes the guy a lot too. Promised him we'd be way better this year to entice him to re-sign with us, or so the story goes.

And by re-signing Kike, one knew that promise was a lie.

Tapia DFAd.

Arroyo is back, but they didn’t need to DFA anyone to activate him. Valdez could have been demoted.

I suppose this opens a 40 man roster spot for Duvall…

...but in no way, shape or form compared the two directly. This is comparing apples to nuclear bombs.

Duvall has been getting in game reps. He should be back soon. The next guy to go will be Reyes. Bigger decision will be if Story, Duvall and Arroyo are healthy at the same time.

Valdez is hitting a little, but the OBP is below 300 and his defense is horrible. Would they send him back to AAA and get him to work on his defense or a new position? They moved him around a bit last season and I guess they didn't like what they saw elsewhere either.
