Apparently , " piggybacking " is the latest fad . I guess it is an offshoot of " openers " , third time through the order phobia and bullpen games. It is hard for me to keep up with all this stuff. I'm too old for this.

Is it a fad? Is anyone else doing it?

Maybe it's just a bad idea that will be nipped in the bud by the 2022 Red Sox.

Brasier and Valdez to the rescue!

Gotta hope something else is in the works.

1. A trade for a solid RP'er, ot two.

2. Naming Houck the closer (maybe keep Winckowski on the 26 as a the long man/piggy-backer?)

3. Add Kelly or German to the 40 man and DFA someone.

4. Make Whitlock the closer and keep Winckowski in the rotation.

Any other ideas?

2 and 3 are strong possibilities.

1 and 4 are extremely doubtful.

Give guys in the farm chance to pitch. Bringing back retreads such as Brasier does no good. Has he really gotten any better?

I'm anxious to watch to J Winchowski pitch. I like your idea #2.

Do something different. Keep doing the same thing won't cure what ills the Sox pen.

Each day, I'm getting tired of Dieckman. All talk, no command.

The best solution would be to have both Houck, and Whitlock in the pen, which I believe wouldn’t have even been a question if Sale hadn’t gotten hurt. The Sox don’t have a winning record when Whitlock starts, so it’s not like that has been a successful way to go.

Major league teams are not trading us their closer.

But there has to be a triple a pitcher that is a serious closer candidate that has his path blocked or a triple a guy with stuff not getting a chance, that we can trade for!

Yes and we traded for that guy last year, and ate Adam Ottavino’s salary in the deal…

Ottavino is not a guy I would classify as having “stuff”!

More appropriately, I would classify ottavino’s “stuff” as any of the following:

1.) ordinary stuff

2.) bland stuff

3.) Luke warm stuff

4.) uninspiring stuff

5.) 3 day old donut stuff

6.) well past the expiration date stuff

7.) Erectile dysfunctional stuff

There are probably more, but I think you know where I am headed in my evaluation of ottavino!

Did you (of all people) miss that I was clearly talking about Frank German?

Whitlock pitched a solid game last night and should have been the winner.

the Sale injury really Eff'd it all up, didn't it?

Had he just waited until Paxton was ready to get hurt, we might have worked it all out- in system.

Yes he shoulda, but with the bullpen sucking it was just a wasted effort. How many wins has Evol lost, because the pen blew the lead for him? It’s never been a question to me if Whitlock can start, or not, but just that he would be more valuable in the pen.

Like Perez, Ottavino was two different pitchers 1st half vs second half:

.574 OPS Against 1st half (37 IP and 159 PA)

.948 OPS Against 2nd half (25 IP and 117 PA)

In fantasy baseball over the past few days I've picked up two of moonslav's formerly favored relievers: Matt Barnes with his 6.75 ERA and Lou Trivino with his 7.71 ERA.

Our earlier back-and-forth discussions of their values was appreciated.

You may need a lot of luck.

Last year at this time the Red Sox had a better bullpen. Barnes was a good closer, and Whitlock was in the pen pitching good too. Even Otto wasn’t bad at the time. This year. Meh.

The bullpen cost us the series against the orioles!

It remains a dumpster fire in progress.

And Bloom’s solution was to send Bra Man, and the Sour Man down, and then called them right back. Not to mention Valdez too.

Hang’em Chaim appears to be grasping for any life line he can find.

I believe that is what is referred to as moonslop

Eduard Bazardo in WOO has given up zero earned runs since April and only 1 after 4/17. I think I'd rather give him a shot than Brasier. Edited by mvp 78

Bring up Bazardo, Kelly and German and DFA/demote Brasier, Robles and Barnes…
