He was upset with the contract extension offer made by Boston. That actually sounds similar…

No, there was much more to it than that, starting with his mysterious foot injury.

He had tendinitis in both Achilles’ tendons. What is so mysterious? That Steve Buckley liked to paint a different and unflattering picture? Yes let’s put our faith in a guy who once made a big ordeal of Roger Clemens throwing hot dog buns…

I firmly subscribe to the principle that you don't trade good players when you're still in the hunt. The one exception we've seen was Nomar, but as I said, that was actually intended to upgrade the 2004 team's chances to win a ring.

The talk about trading Barnes last year started when he was really going good.

Not many posters are saying we should trade Bogey, if we are still in the hunt, but I guess how much of a chance we have at the deadline might be up for debate.

I would not trade Bogey, if we have a good chance to make the playoffs, but I would not be upset, if we did trade him while our team does not look like a ring contender. (Note: I am not one who believes the "playoffs are a crapshoot.")

BTW, Nomar was not the only example under Henry. On September 4th, 2006, the 75-64 Red Sox were 6 games behind the wild card slot (MN), and we traded David Wells for a prospect (Kottaras). I remember several posters on the old site being upset we were raising the white flag, too early. We ended up finishing 10 behind at 86-76.

Actually they seem more similar than you state.

For example, the “sulking game” from Nomar, you omit he sat out because he was injured.

The issue wasn't that he didn't play, but that he sat on the bench with a poopy face while the rest of the team was on the top step rooting on the team.

It really started off with him making a mess in his diaper in Spring Training that year.

Didn't they catch him lying about when and how he got injured?

Documentation of Rocket's roid rage is important actually.

Traded over a poopy face.

This beats Beer gate!

Your right that Normar was a sulker, and did it during games. That one shot of him in the Yankee Stadium dugout sitting alone when the rest of the team was standing was perfect Nomar. You don’t see Bogey doing that. Bogey is the team leader, and to professional for that.

If you're trying to win, do you want a lesser guy who can play everyday or a better guy who has to sit out half the time and has a s*** attitude?

Yup, Nomar needed a whole PR team. Bogey just seems like a good guy.

I loved the trade.

I remember telling my brothers-in-law, "We just traded Nomar and are going to win it all!"

They replied, "Who did we get?"

"Orlando Cabrera," I relied.

"Orlando who?" they said in unison.

Nomar was an over-rated defender, and OCab was a stellar defender at SS, and not a bad hitter, either.

I just never knew Nomar was traded, because of his face, until now. Thanks for the scoop!

Despite his clearly harmless weapon of choice?

Ever try to incapacitate someone with a empty hot dog roll? It’s not like he filled them with Fenway Franks and force fed them to anyone…

Yup, you got me. It was because of his face. I'm surprised you didn't see that before.

First comes the hot dog roll. Then comes the boiling hot dog water.

I know. Fans run with these things.

I render after Beer Gate fans posting their disappointment with Lester for letting himself become an alcoholic….

If you really want to re-litigate Nomar, we may have to start a separate thread. Why do you think he was traded then?

It's a mystery. He was better than Xander apparently. Must have been a bad trade.

I like the ones bashing AGon for letting them use his cellphone.

And slick fielding Orlando Cabrera had a worse UZR/150 than Xander the "below average fiedler" has ever had at SS.

It’s been over 30 years. Surely that water has cooled down by now…

He was traded for a SS who could actually field balls hit in his direction.

If it was his personality, certainly they could have done better than Orlando Cabrera…

And who had multiple working Achilles’ tendons. Nomar’s days as a shortstop were coming to an abrupt end at that point…

The slick fielding below average SS.

So you're ok with former MLB stars lobbing blocks of ice at people now?

So why were you talking up Nomar's fielding in post #344?

That's how horrible he believes Xander is in 2022.
