Let’s talk Pedro Castellaneous! All he does is hit. Career minor league average of .298.

But not a lot of power and hardly ever walks.

That was a short talk, and got to the point about why he's not on the big club radar.

Lugo has remained hot (2-5), despite no homers. Hickey with 2 BBs and 1 K, keeping his hopes of ending the season with more BBs than K's alive. Uberstine went a solid 4 IP (1 ER, 6Ks)

Alex Speier's report on Red Sox teenagers playing in the FCL was encouraging: "perhaps the best group to come through Fort Myers since a 2014 team that featured Rafael Devers..."

Top takes:

CF Miguel Bleis is described as a five-tool player by everyone -- a coach, a scout and a farm director. One called him "a righthanded version of Devers"... but 18, and already with back issues.

RHP Luis Peralta, 19, has "electric stuff", throws 99 mph, and has been dominant. "The myth has become a reality," said the scout, of the pitcher signed at 16 out of Venezuela.

IF Johnfrank Salazar, 19, can hit, play D, and is looked up to as a leader.

Speier also mentioned this summer's draftees, with highest praise for Marcelo Mayer comp Mikey Romero, outfielder Roman Anthony, and 9th-rounder Brooks Brannon -- a power hitter who may actually stick at catcher.

We could really use a big boost from the lower leagues. I'm hopeful this farm building on paper turns into reality.

You said a mouthful!!!

It's all speculation, of course, but all you can expect a GM to do is add exciting and well-regarded players to the system and hope for the best.

I know "hope" has somehow become a bad word, these days, but it's always been a big part of baseball and even more so for baseball fans, as 29 teams' fans say every fall and winter, "Wait 'till next year!"

I like what I see from the farm and don't think optimism should be viewed as a fault or without value.

A MLB farm system can have enormous value. It can be the main reason a team wins a ring, and more often than not has been.

This whole oversimplification of not counting anything as having value, until it pleases me, now, is an idea and mindset I don't want to be any part of.

Negativity is such a downer.

Even if it’s just as trade bait…

Of course!

I'm fine with making big trades with the farm- like the Sale trade.

We just need balance, IMO.

The overwhelming strength of our minor league system is middle infielders. At some point, the future logjam will need to be resolved.

Trades are definitely one way to remedy this.

Many prospects came from high school or college as the b est player on the team, and SS is often where the best plays.

It is often not where they end up in the bigs.

I don't think we should make any trades, right now, based on there being a log jam at SS/2B. We have a gaping hole there coming this winter, and when and if a log jam occurs, we can deal with it then.

(Moving Betts to RF worked out well. Duran to CF, not so much.)

That being said, here is what you are talking about:

ML/ML Ready:

Story, Arroyo, Downs AAA, Sanchez AAA

AA/AAA in 2023:

Rafaela (CF?), EValdez, Lugo, Koss, Yorke, Hamilton, McDonough (LF?), Ferguson, Cannon

A/A+ (maybe AA at some point for some):

Mayer, Bonaci, Paulino (3B?), Romero, Salazar

FCL:

Liendo & de Leon

Kavadas with his 1st Portland tater of the season. And I think he is the first Red Sox prospect to have tater at three different levels in one season since Hang’em Chaim has been GM.

But there is more………wait for it……. You know it’s coming ……… yes, he did it in fact. He got another walk thus far today! The man is an on base machine!

Kavadas needs to replace Martinez at dh next season. Kavadas is on base more time in a series than dalbec is in a month!

Posted

Kavadas ends game 1 with another walk. He is now up to 94 on the season against 119 strikeouts.

So far this year, he has a .460 on base percent across 3 levels.

At Worcester, wong continues his tater love affair and now has 13 on the season!

Cassas is 1 for 1 with two walks. I think teams are just pitching around him. He needs to be in Boston.

Wong has been on fire!

I think he will be one of our September call-ups.

Casas might be the other, especially, if Hosmer stays on the IL.

Bonaci with 2 dingers that brings his OPS up to .787 at Salem.

Lugo is still white hot- going 3 for 5, tonight. He's up to .840, now.

Mayer 1-4, HR and BB

Ferguson, acquired in the Vaz deal, went 1 for 1 with 2BB and 3 runs scored. Rosier had a 2B.

Groshans with his 5th HR with GRE.

POR lost 2-1 and then won 2-1. TWard pitched well in the winning game: 5 IP, 3H, 1ER, 1BB and 10K's!!!

Wallace got the 2 inning save

At Worcester, cassas with his 10th tater of the season and new guy Valdez with his 5th triple a tater of the season!

Enmanuel Valdez had a .937 OPS with 25 HRs in 103 games, this season, before today. (.860, last year)

Posted
At Portland, Hamilton with his 10th tater of the season and abreu with his 1st Portland tater of the season!

Abreu had an .816 OPS w 16 Hrs and 43 XBHs in 112 games, this year. (,858 last year)

I think if you look hard at Hang’em Chaim‘s first two drafts with us, when it comes to position players, he has brought in some very intriguing prospects.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for his drafting of pitchers!

Use those guys to trade for a pitcher?
