This place is dead. Bumping this thread.

I cant stand JBJ, never could, never understood the hype.

Recently Felger and Mazz revealed numbers that suggested that JBJ was on of the worst offensive players of all time to have a certain number of at bats.

That's just more confirmation that Felger and Mazz are a couple of ignorant tools.

JBJ is a slightly above average major league player. He's way above average on defense and below average on offense.

His above average-ness explains why he's been around so long in spite of the lacklustre offense.

A guy whose profile is extremely similar is Kevin Pillar. He's been around a while too.

Career numbers:

JBJ

3286 PA's

.705 OPS

+87 OPS+

14.2 fWAR

Pillar

3833 PA's

.705 OPS

+88 OPS+

13.6 fWAR

I looked at the last 40 years, the exact amount of seasons I've been a Sox fan. There are over 800 players with 3500+ PAs, like JBJ, and 169 players have a worse OPS than JBJ's .705.

Sure, OPS is not everything, but many of those players were under .650 and even .600

Felger and Mazz are probably still confused about how Ozzie Smith and his career 28 HRs and .666 OPS got into the Hall of Fame…

I argued with people here about him forever his first time around.

If he is getting a significant number of at bats, then your OF blows.

Knowing Felger and Mazz, they probably meant exactly 3,286 at-bats…

JBJ is the most gifted OF glove I’ve ever seen and cannot wait to see him save runs for our pitching all year .I would sign Conforto also . Edited by Swiharts Ghost

Have you watched kermierer of Tampa bay play?

Yup, and maybe the whole league.

Over the past 5 years:

DRS #1 (JBJ is 7th)

ARM #1 (JBJ is 4th)

UZR/150 #2 (JBJ is 9th)

But if he played for the Red Sox, Felger and Mazz would be knocking him as a weak bat.

Made of glass. Can't stay on the field. Name is hard to spell.

He's been #1 in my book for a long time.

The worst bat with 3130 PAs in MLB history! (Also the best)

JBJ has a career 87 WRC+.

Bill Bergen had a 22 WRC+ and 3,228 PA's.

Notable WRC+ names:

Rey Ordonez 54

Neifi Perez 58

Cesar Izturis 61

Alfredo Griffin 65

Adam Everrett 65

Billy Hamilton 66

Brian Huner 73

Tom Goodwin 74

Darren Lewis 76

Otis Nixon 81

There are 42 OFers with 3,000+ PA's and a worse WRC+ than JBJ. Per Fangraphs, he's the 35th best OF glove of all time.

Worst OF gloves of all time:

Sheffield

Manny

Dunn

Winfield

Baines

So, he is getting regular AB's this year after that horrendous season he had last year?

Not good.

MVP 78, you suck!

How much rope do the Sox give Bradley? Hopefully next to none if we hope to make the playoffs.

Here's the rub: Cora gave these guys this much rope:

OPS

.567 Marwin over 271 PAs in 77 games

.497 Cordero over 136 PAs & 48 games

.597 Santana over 127 PAs & 38 games

.578 Duran over 112 PAs & 33 games

Chavis & Arauz had 157 PAs combined and an OPS around .600

But, then again, he stuck with...

Renfroe after 68PAs at .485 to start the season.

He went .859 in his last 504 PAs of the season.

Kike (some at leadoff) after 222 PAs at .650 to start the season.

He hit ,874 in his last 363 PAs and then absolutely raked in 52 postseason PAs.

Again, batting ninth…

If he's hitting 165, it's a problem. If he's hitting 225, you live with it.

It might hurt, if Vaz does not bounce back on "o". Having 2 guys under .670 can be very harmful.

The year JBJ hit 225, his OPS was 740.

obp .200 + slg .700 = ops .900

I think he was trying to say BA/OPS, not OBP/SLG.

An OBP of 200 and SLG of 700 would be crazy cupcakes.
