I will never understand why that would matter to anyone.

It's the right call.

Watching an ump make a bad call is not entertainment and should never be.

What you fail to understand is that many games are not supposed to be perfect. The beauty in the game is the human element. The arguments about blown calls for me are all part of the beauty of the game. What you advocate is an antiseptic game which will become increasingly devoid of its humanity. You might as well watch computer simulations.

Balls and strikes calls are probably the hardest thing that any official in sport has to do. Especially with pitchers throwing harder than ever and with the baseballs breaking more than ever.

Bad calls that impact games, sometimes blatantly decide games, are inevitable.

If there was replay back in 1985, Don Denkinger's life wouldn't have been ruined. I'm not sure how a man's life being ruined by making a bad call is part of the beauty of the game.

No games will ever be perfect, and I don't strive for that.

I certainly don't strive to have an ump make a bad call just to prove the world or the most wonderful game in the world is not perfect.

I hope you don't fail to understand that.

Plus, the ump has a catcher in the way every pitch. Other sports have their refs' vision blocked from time to time, but not like this.

Having umps guess what are strikes is not fun for me.

Are you suggesting the fate of humanity depends of instant replay? Talk about exaggeration.

Have you ever umpired a game behind the plate? I guess they have been doing it all wrong for the past hundred plus years. How has this game survived.

We'll never know if baseball with robo-umps is better or worse than baseball without it, if they don't try it.

I can understand fans not liking replay delays, but this should be seamless und unnoticeable.

Remember those fans who concede (or brag?) that public cursing out of distant umps is a primary reason to go to the game.

That is a nonsense argument. Sounds like something Nancy Pelosi would say.

Those aren't fans

It was really enjoyable watching the home plate ump make so many great calls, tonight.

I never noticed this fascinating aspect of the game. It was so much more fun than paying attention to the players.

Thanks for the heads up.

The umpire did a nice job last night, the problem occurs when the umpire is not doing a good job and we saw that during the ALCS.

Now THAT is the dumbest argument ever. “Well that’s how they’ve always done it so it must be right.”

I guess all those centuries where “doctors” carved holes in people’s skulls to let evil spirits escape were right, too, because that’s how it was always done at the time. f*** aspirin…

Apples and oranges. Baseball is a sport not real life. If we really want to modernize the "game" lets automate the whole thing. Robo umps Robo players and Robo fans.

Do not you provide the evidence that we already have Robo fans?

I see we agree on one thing - when you can’t make a valid point, use a slippery slope argument…

"Baseball is a sport not real life".

Sport is obviously a part of our lives that many of us care a lot about, so that argument is a non-starter.

Every time I put a hole in my head, it just lets more evil spirits in.

The Atlanta Falcons got in trouble for that a couple years ago…

One of the more largely ignored yet potentially more lethal side effects of that treatment. Right up there with how it affected your ability to operate heavy machinery…

No it isn't. Comparing how a game is played to how illnesses are treated is nonsensical and a complete exaggeration.

Actually the slippery slope argument is a valid point regardless with you agree with it or not. But it is typical of you, you can not refute it so you try to dismiss it. Inappropriately I might add.

Yeah, but comparing robo umps with robo players and robo fans isn't.

We were doing fine before the light bulb, too, and those damn steam engines!
