He did poorly at it the first half of the year. Cora stuck with him and he did very well at it in July and August up until he got Covid. He seems to have relapsed to his first half self.

Problem is the Sox really don’t have anyone who fits the prototype lead off hitter profile. Schwarber might be the closest, but he is slow and wasn’t with the club until August.

That’s the problem with playing that game; Cora has to manage the roster he has. Everything is trade-offs.

Agreed. It is more Bloom's problem to fix multiple issues on the mound and in the lineup for 2022 than Cora's use of who he has

Vaz started because overall, ERod has pitched better with him behind the plate (didn’t go that way tonight but over the season it is true).

Richards would be available tomorrow. Pivetta has pitched pretty well and if nothing else, is saving the pen, which is a good thing. He could even be putting himself in line for a potential Game 5 start should the series get that far.

I still don’t get why Richards came in at all.

He had some pop this year, but was in the 240’s most of the year, so it would be nice to get on base more too.

I’m not disagreeing. The OP pointed it out as a bad (or maybe poor) decision by Cora. My point was no one on the Sox roster really fits the bill snd thst Cora can only deal with the guys he has on the roster.

After his stupid injury, I wonder if JD will continue to step on 2nd base when he goes to the OF. If he needs a superstitious maneuver, just jump over the foul lines. Or, better yet, don't let him play in the OF.

True. He got it by default.

My guess is because he can get warm quickly and he doesn’t burn one of the “good” arms. Pivetta then had time to warm up properly and has looked pretty good overall.

It was either play the OF, or not play at all in that NL park.

It’s probably something he’s done his entire career without incident spanning 860+ games and 7200+ innings played in the OF.

E-rod did about as well for the SOX tonight as Cole did for the Yankems on Tuesday.

The big difference is the SOX can say good-bye to E-rod and cost them nothing. The Yankems still have 7 years of Cole at 34 million per year.

Well they need a better effort tomorrow on both sides or this will be over in a heartbeat.

What’s the confidence with Sale pitching?

Now , you have truly been played for the fool and f***ed over simultaneously. Forfeit tomorrow and go back to Fenway, sleepy heads

ERod was awful. However.. this Rays team? Damn. Put it this way.. I am hoping that they don’t bring everyone back.

Illioniois, it had nothing to do with Cora putting him there. It is a relatively weak OBP for a leadoff hitter, which is the players lack of baseball skills

Dalbec hits 3 balls on the nose and has nothing to show for it.

Warning track power is the stuff AAAA'ers are made of

Well that’s the cherry on top. Rays were better in every facet tonight. A genuine tip of the cap. But this series is NOT over. The SOX WILL be heard from before it’s all set and done.

Walks have turned into runs although Pivetta's walk of Arozarena was helped by two bad calls by the ump. The steal of home off Taylor was inexcusable. Just not paying attention. The ox are hitting but nothing big.
