This kind of goes without saying

LET’S f***ING GO!!!!!!!!!!

JD is out, so how much buzzar can you get then tripping over a base to go play D.

It all seems like it fits into this year's Sox narrative, though.

@alexspeier

A couple omissions of note on the roster: as expected, Sale is not on the roster for tonight’s game. More surprising: No Sawamura or Darwinzon Hernandez in the bullpen. Both Nick Pivetta and Eduardo Rodriguez are on the roster.

Very unpleasant day here in Boston. Light drizzle, temps in the 50s. Should be dry by game time but still very gross and cold

Absolutely stunning. Yes, JDM will be missed, but that bullpen looks really good with the addition of Taylor. I would not have included Richards, but what the heck. I also have doubts about Ottavino and Davis.

Since it's just one game, it makes sense to have 14 position players to 12 pitchers.

I was hoping JDM could pinch hit, but obviously he can't.

OPS vs Cole:

Kiké 1481

Verdugo 929

Devers 934

Xander 575

Renfroe 438

Schwarber 440

I think this has to be a low scoring game for the Sox to have a chance. The Sox bats for the most part have been having a slumber party for the last week, or so against not your best pitching staffs, and Cole is a lot better than that. Of course this is a lot different atmosphere, and Cole has been knocked around a little bit lately, so anything can happen, and probably will.

No Perez was expected. The third catcher indicates the desire to PH for our catcher(s). Not a bad idea.

What pitchers would you replace Richards or the two with doubts?

Interesting that of the 26 players who were on the active roster for the opening series with the Orioles, there are now 9 "new" names on the WC 26. Sale did not make either of those 2 rosters , and JD Martinez made an ill-fated misstep over second base.

Here's wishing Nate a spectacular 6 inning game.[b But who is the starting catcher ??

Shaw will be one PH vs. a righty. But who is the next bat off the bench? Arauz? Duran? I'd think the former would play D after the latter pinch ran for Arroyo (not saying his leg is still iffy, just that Duran is faster). Maybe Wong is here for extras in case they pinch run for Vazquez -- despite his SBs.

I would rather see Sawamura than Richards , including 2022 opening day

The Sox must have specific match-ups in mind for Richards and Ottavino -- like certain righties with a man on base and two outs; if a reliever finishes an inning, he's not required to face three batters nor take the mound the next frame. Personally, I can't trust using either unless the game is deep into extra innings and we're out of arms.

Other than the likelihood of Plawecki and Vazquez flipflopping in a Catcher/PH capacity, who else in the prospective lineup would you actually PH for , Shaw for Dalbec ? I don't see Arauz, Wong or Duran hitting for anyone ( well, maybe if you want exceptional bunting skills to play a role). A PRunner scenario is very possible in the 8th or 9th.

I think if we are behind in the 9th , we will see Chapman for the Yankees, so that would negate Shaw's usage I would think

I forgot about Sawamura, but what about Ottavino and Davis? I see nobody clearly better.

We might PH Renfroe for Vaz and then Shaw for Plawecki, and end the game with Wong.

I think way to much is being made of how many pitchers, and who is on the roster. This is a one game playoff, and not like the last 6 games of the season when a lot of arms in the bullpen were running on fumes, and could only go 1 inning at a time. If EO can’t at least get into the 6th inning I think the Sox are in trouble. Whitlock being back is huge, and good for a couple of innings, so I don’t see a lot of pitches being used in this game.

True. If we need to go to Richards over Sawamura, we're in trouble or up by 7.

I'm fine with the list because it's only 12 pitchers--way more than are needed for one game--and because I think Richards, et al deserve the honor of being on the roster.

If Cora uses as many as six relievers, I would expect to see Whitlock, Houck, Pivetta, ERod, Sawamura, and Taylor. I would not use Richards, Ottavino, or Davis, but might use Barnes and/or Hernandez.

Agree. If this was a series then it would be a whole other discussion. If something happened to EO early such as a injury I can see going to Richards, but outside of that it’s a lopsided game one way of the other for him to get in.

I think Bra with one big day of rest will get in before most of these guys.
