All I know is that not only is Cora a genius, he's a brilliant genius!

And he’ll probably still lose MOY to Cash…

Pom poms, and all. Cora’s head cheerleader.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I am a Sox fan, afterall.

What Sox player are you a cheerleader?

His involvement in the Astros' cheating may affect Cora's chance of MOY. Not fair, but it probably will.

Maybe not really unfair, either.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Just over the top with that brilliant genus stuff. I don’t get into the rah rah stuff, or awards for that matter.

What don't you get?

I think he's the best manager the Sox have ever had, which for long stretches is not saying much.

I have disagreed with his choices many times, but I realize he knows much more than I do.

I think he's the best. We can quibble over the terms "genius" and "brilliant," or call it hyperbole, but it's my opinion.

I can understand why you don't think he is, and your points have merit, and it's your opinion.

Can you answer my question?

What don’t I get? When you say brilliant, and genius, and Cora has made less mistakes than any other manager in baseball this year without any facts to back that up I just think it’s way over the top. I get it you think he’s the best there is, and best there ever was, but I just don’t think there is any way to rate someone to give them that distinction.

It's called an opinion.

I never said it's a fact Cora is the best and makes less mistakes.

Do I need to qualify every statement I make it, "IMO" or "I think...?"

You give your opinions: I give mine. That's what this site is about.

I think Cora is the best Sox manager I've seen. Tito was real close. Dick Williams, too.

I guess you don't have to be brilliant to be better than all the rest, so call it hyperbole. It's not like you never exaggerate. "White flags" and all.

Baker and Cash’s teams had higher hopes going into the year. The Sox surprised nearly everyone.

Cora was a definite huge factor in how successful the Sox were. He is certainly a worthy candidate. I still think I'd give the edge to Cash. As much as I dislike the Rays, I can't deny their ability to play so well, even after losing starting pitcher after starting pitcher. It's not even a payroll thing for me.

That said, I'd be thrilled if Cora won it. He moved up a notch in my already high respect factor after the playoffs.

No arguments.

They traded Snell. They traded Rich Hill mid season.

They lost Yonny Chrinos all year (#3/4 starter)

They lost Glasnow (their ace) during the season to TJS.

Their closer (Nick Anderson) missed almost the whole year

Plus, Beeks (all season), Chris Archer, Springs and others.

Cora did a fine job this year. He deserves praise and a raise. But he is not the manager of the year.

Cora the "Best..."

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/forget-manager-year-red-sox-have-arguably-best-alex-cora?cid=sm_npd_rsn_bos_fb_mn&fbclid=IwAR0s2PGAGMDj2x6jDj7tlmRtndAB1W6n5y_CwA__pfUkXYK2oywtRS8d79Y

The Red Sox started nine different players at second, eight at first, and eight in left. Cora constructed 142 batting orders in 162 games, his most common grouping appearing together a grand total of four times. The Red Sox used 37 pitchers (including 4 position players) and never quite knew which relievers would be reliable. What started as a Matt Barnes-Adam Ottavino-Darwinzon Hernandez trio for the eighth and ninth innings morphed into a Garrett Whitlock-Josh Taylor-Ryan Brasier grouping by the end....

He held the club together through a season-opening sweep vs. the Orioles, a trade deadline that did not supply immediate help, and a COVID outbreak that could've ended the season in August. Once he engaged postseason mode during the final must-win weekend in Washington, the Red Sox transformed. He used starters Eduardo Rodriguez and Nick Pivetta to close out a comeback victory vs. the Nationals on the final day of the season, and then rode that all-spikes-on-deck mentality through the Yankees and Rays before succumbing to the superior talent of the Astros with a 2-1 lead in the ALCS.

He deserves set-up men and a closer like Atlanta has. What he doesn't deserve is to be questioned for trying to close with his best starter in the ALCS after Boston's bullpen allowed five home runs in three games.

The American League surely thought it hilarious from August 27 through September 8, 2021, when the Alex Cora-led Red Sox won 7 and lost 6 with half the team quarantined because of Covid.

It's kind of a joke that he isn't. But the award is a joke anyway.

I have stated that I think Cash deserves MOY, but it really is a slight that Cora is not one of the 3 finalists. IMO, he should be there instead of Dusty Baker. He should be ahead of Servais also.

The M's fell just two Ws short at least a playoff for the Wild Card game; just curious if anyone in Seattle -- fans, media, players -- blamed the deadline switch of relievers Graveman and Castillo. Graveman couldn't possibly have stayed near-perfect, which he didn't, and Castillo wasn't bad after blowing a few his first week.

Haniger went crazy down the stretch when he was one of the most valuable bats in the AL... especially without the protection of a line-up like those in Houston, Boston, Toronto...so I thought. But in bb-ref's "Clutch" (WPA) category, Seager was #1, Crawford tied for #2, and Moore #6... with Haniger #12. Boston leaders were Arroyo and Verdugo, tied for #7.

After the trade of Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero for Abraham Toro and Joe Smith, Graveman posted an ERA of 3.13 in 23 appearances with the Astros while Smith posted an ERA of 2.00 in 23 appearances with the Mariners. Diego Castillo posted an ERA of 2.86 in 24 appearances with Seattle while JT Chargois, who went to Tampa Bay in the Castillo trade, posted an ERA of 1.90 in 25 appearances with the Rays.

The Mariners were 55-46 (.545) before the Graveman trade and 35-26 (.574) after the trade.
