It should be a team error if nothing else. But then general rule is if the fielder doesn’t touch a ball like that, it’s a hit.

That rule would be fine if this was little league, but it's ridiculous at the major league level.

Bobby D can’t hit FBs over 94 mph, so Cora made the right call from an offensive prospective.

Schwaber is not a 1B, and shouldn’t try to masquerade as one.

At least this game will end the powder blue/babyshit yellow uniforms.Had expected to have to tolerate them all weekend as the Sox ended the Yankees season but now suspect that next week's games will be important than should have been necessary

What is the matter with today's pitchers. Even Cole, one of the best, with a 7 run lead throws a 3-2 Slider to Hernandez trying to get him to swing at a pitch that is out of the zone......WITH A 7 run lead and two outs!!!!!

I really don't understand how the game is being played these days. It is some game other than baseball.

He’s had a lot of trouble with pop ups, that’s for sure. I get the ones near the stands, that one there is no excuse.

No need to panic. Sox really only need to split the next two games. Even if they get swept I am confident they will win 5-6 against Orioles and Nats and still get in. Nate was due for a bad game I guess.

Well, 'this guy' since he's been a Red Sox has the highest OBP in the AL. But, I would rather have seen Schwarber in LF and Dalbec at 1st. The way EO pitched tonight, I guess it really doesn't matter.

I could care less about Schwaber’s OBP with lots of walks. Until he hit 2 HR the other night against a pitcher he hits well he hadn’t hit a homer in about 3 weeks, and was 6-31 in his last ten.

Kyle is not a first baseman’s backside, that said Dalbec and his 11 errors have been poor as well.

Dalbec has been fielding better lately ……

It was Cora's decision to place Schwarber at 1st. Blame the right person.

While not to blame, there are a lot of posters here who insisted that anyone can play first base and it would be no big deal for Schwarber to make the switch.

I’m just not a Schwaber fan, and I blame the front office for that. At the trading deadline Boddy D was sucking, and the Sox needed a 1B, and Rizzo was available, but they were to slow, and the Yankees jumped in. Rizzo is a good 1B, and was healthy unlike Schwaber who was hurt, and couldn’t play for a few weeks. In the meantime the Sox took a big nosedive.

The way Cole is dealing, it may not have mattered if good Nate had showed up. Good Cole is a better pitcher than good Eovaldi.

Warning: assuming normal rest, if the Sox face the Yanks in the wild card game, Cole would take the mound against Eovaldi.

Thanks to JDM to break up the no-hitter, fairly early. But it is disappointing to see the team offering up little resistance to Cole

But if they fire you, you might get severance pay. What terms were in your contract?

I was supposed to get an extension after this game was over, but it appears that went down the crapper. I'll have to contact my lawyer Ben Dover.

You should get Barnes' agent. He would have got you the extension right before you turned to crap.

Is he with the Dewey, Cheatem and Howe law firm?

Yup. Just not our night.

Assuming this one is already over , it will be interesting to see if Cora will have the latitude to have both Eovaldi and Sale both available for the WC game , by winning about of 6 of the next 7. Knowing Cora's tendency, if it turns out to be Cole vs Eovaldi's turn, Cora will go with EO .

That is the best line on a bad baseball night. Ted knocks it out of the park right there

Like Cole not having 2 bad games in a row I don’t think Eo would either, so Eo over Sale against the Yankees.
