The difference between Montgomery today and Houck today is that Montgomery has pretty good stuff, especially the wicked curve and nasty changeup. Everything Houck has throw has been hittable.

I am pretty sure all Montgomery needs against our lineup is that big curve, that pretty good cut fastball (91 mph), and the changeup.

Dalbec loyalists need to take a bow.

They need to take more. His breaking balls haven't been strikes.

Look at KIKE, he started to take balls after a 0-2 count and he finally walked.

Our guys need to be patience.

After some horrible Sox AB's, Kiké has a good one.

Montgomery threw exactly one strike out of 7 pitches. Kike did change his approach after chasing the first two.

The one downside to Montgomery's great curve is that with men on base a WP can be costly.

On the other hand, it is destroying Bogie as it did JDM.

Followed up by a one pitch soft ground out.

Kiké saw 7 pitches. The other 3 batters that inning saw 4.

They in a rush to get somewhere?

Game 2 because this one isn't interesting to them

I deleted because my numbers were wrong. The Sox really aren't driving up that pitch count though.

Bonehead move by Monty and his stupid catcher!!!!! Curve was working great, so they decided to give Bogey a fastball right down the middle.

2-2 !!!!!!!!

It is quite obvious that Montgomery's direction is to throw stuff out of the zone and make them chase. The Sox hitters need to make him throw called strike one until he starts coming into range

Am I the only one keeping track of what the pitchers are doing? Did no one else notice that that sinker to Bogey was incredibly stupid?

Yes and no. The problem is that at some point that pitch is in fact headed for the strike zone. This is especially true of the curve which has a lot of break to it.

Was supposed to be off the plate. Just missed his spot. Pretty bad pitch on 0-2 (or really any count).

2-2 but our base running keeps being horrible man.

As someone said it before, Montgomery's OPS against in clutch situations dramatically goes from 500 to 800 (or something). If this is not a prove of clutch, I don't know what it is lol.

He shouldn't have pitched a FB at all. I think it was Sanchez' call though.

Was it a sinker? it didn't sink at all.

Houck threw all low stuff, well places, and mixed fastball, sinker, and slider to K Judge. Well done.

Two splitters to Gallo, and a 3 batter, 11 pitch 3d for Houck!

What a turnaround from the 2d inning and against the 2d, 3d, and 4th Yankee batters.

If Houck can command his slider, fastball, sinker, and splitter, he might be all right.

It is a good repertory. Question is, How good is he with his splitter and the sinker?

Sinker is a fast ball that goes down a little, even if its infinitesimal. Rather than sinker, I think Fat Boy might have been a better term.

I think both work in the right places.
