unbelievable. 0 outs and no runs with bases loaded. wow!

The Sox rank 21st in MLB with a .255 average with the bases loaded, which is very poor given their lineup.

The Rays are no.1 with a .386 average

Kike got himself out swinging at 2 balls

When a guy throws that hard , you don't have much time to make up your mind. Many strikeouts happen that way.

That’s why they get paid the big bucks , and I sit and watch from my couch.

As I said, managing based on stats is getting ridiculous.

Why is this about stats?

Some will tell you, clutch is not a repeatable skill even with these facts.

That's because it isn't.

It is lol

Look at the numbers he just gave.

He's a young kid they don't want to overexpose.

All I’ve been reading here and there is that they pulled him out because he is not effective facing lineups for the 3rd time.

My eyes tell me they have sucked this season with loaded bases

yeah but what Sporer is arguing in his tweet is that the sample is very small which I agree.

IMO they need to give him a shot and let him go deeper in games regardless the result if they want to develop him as a SP.

4-5 IP in regular basis will tax the pen.

If he simply can't go deeper in games, then he is not SP material.

Very good , exciting ball game. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. Sometimes it does . Just win tonight. Tomorrow looks very good with the Yankees pitching ham and egger Heaney. Easier schedule coming . Keep the faith.

Wild applause. I personally am way down because the bullpen stunk yet again and because the Sox got three straight singles to start the 7th, then Shaw lined out (good swing), and Rike and Renfroe struck out like rookies.

But it was a good game, despite the outcome, and tonight could be another with Eovaldi vs. Gil.

I don't want to hear from anyone who didn't say before the 5th started that Houck should come out for the 5th. I am the only one who said it, and I think there was a valid reason for not sending Houck out for the 3d time through the Yankees order.

As for sample size, Houck doesn't have a big one, so Cora has to go with what he's got. As someone else has already pointed out, Houck stinks in the 4th and 5th innings.

Plus Whitlock has been the Sox best reliever (WAR-wise) on the Sox, at least, before this game, and Whitlock can go 2 innings easily.

Hindsight says shoulda, woulda, coulda gone with Houck, but foresight said, even when he is pitching great guns, Houck comes apart 3d time through the order--or the 5th inning, take your pick.

The question is whether a crucial game like this is the time to try it.

Seems more like something you work on for 2022.

Sometimes you have to give a guy like Houck a little longer leash. That said , I can't fault Cora's moves today. Whitlock and Taylor have been mostly reliable. Baseball can frustrate you when things don't go according to plan. We always seem to forget that you have two teams competing . It's not all about our guys. And it's not easy.

Not sure whether this is a crucial game but the point regarding the tweet is that it could ended up either way since the sample is not large and defining. That’s kind of the point.

Not only did that cheap hit drop right between Kike & Hunter, it would have been a double play if caught. Judge was running full out on the crack of the bat.

Time to turn the luck around.

I hear what you're saying, but last time out, Cora sent Houck out in the 6th to face the Rays' lineup the third time and they went single, homer, double.

In today's game we had a 1 run lead, all our late inning guys ready to go. In my opinion it was clearly the correct move.

Given Houck's history ( stats, fwtw) a ready BP of Whitlock/Taylor , and with the lead , Cora tried to win. His job was not to stretch out Houck, whpo may be a reliever after all unless he develops a changeup.

I like this post. This post deserves to live the American dream: His own thriving business, a nice house (mortgage paid) hot and funny wife, and 2.5 well behaved kids.
