In terms of easiest schedule, the team most likely to catch the Sox would be in order:

M's

A's

Jays

Sox seem to have the easiest remaining schedule of those 4 teams. If they miss out, it's because of how far this team has fallen.

Agreed, and the SEA-BOS series could turn the season, even without a sweep. either way.

The funny thing is, the Ms have a big net run disparity between scoring and allowing runs, yet they look closest.

The best thing for the Sox would be the M's and A's to split their remaining games. If one side beats up on the other, the race for the WC will get really close.

The Jays just have too many games against the Yankees and Rays left for me to take their WC chances seriously.

Sox luck out with O's, Nats and Mets.

The Jays are closing in.

They have an incredible +136 run differential. They are better than what their record indicates.

That said, I am still very confident that the Sox will be in the playoffs.

The Blue Jays are only a game behind in the loss column , but they have played four less games , so that could change.

They play 26 games in the next 27 days. (2 days off and one double header)

Much is said of their 12 games remaining against TBR & NYY, but their other 14 games look very winnable:

7 vs BAL

7 vs MIN

They end the season with 3 v BAL at home, while we play 3 away at WSH.

As we saw with MIN, they can hit. They'll put up some runs against that Jays pitching staff. They won't be a pushover.

The Jays are currently 12-14 vs Tampa and NY and are 8-4 vs Baltimore.

If they came out of those 19 remaining games better than 10-9, it will be a big win for them…

Hear me out:

Would you be happy if the Sox miss out on the WC due to COVID and bad defense, but the Yankees also miss out by losing game 162?

It would certainly take the edge off the disappointment…

I'm already pretty much in ABY mode.

If the Sox were to finish fourth in the East this year, it would be a major disappointment . Should the Yankees also miss out on the post season , it would not change that disappointment very much as far as I am concerned.

Even if they are in 4th place, it would probably be with 84-85 wins. That's about where most of us thought they'd be in ST.

The continued haphazard defensive play has already pushed me past disappointment. I'm already at acceptance.

They could take 4th with 88-89 wins, which is just a handful shy of the total of the first place teams in 2016 and 2017 (each won 93)…

The AL East could have 4 teams with 89+ wins and harmony would still say the AL West was better.

"Well, that's because they got to beat up on the O's. Just don't look at the Rangers too closely, ok?"

That is how Seattle fans seek their annual solace. They blew a two run lead in the ninth to Houston last night. Looks like another disappointing finish for the Mariners.

The chances of getting a wild card are still very good. Can't worry about maybe losing the play-in game to the Yanks. You have to be in it to win it.

100% agree. Even after another loss last night, the Sox have a better chance of getting in than the teams Jays, Mariners, or As, IMO.

Also, for tonight's game, go Jays.

Things can change pretty drastically over a couple of weeks, but I still think it's going to be the Red Sox and the Yankees in the WC game.

I know I keep harping on run differential (because I'm such a fan), but compare the Jays and the Mariners. The Jays are +140 and the Mariners are -56, and they have virtually the same record. That's mind boggling.

I don't think I would say I'd be happy, but if the Sox aren't going to make the playoffs, then the Yankees losing is the next best thing.

I could tolerate the Sox losing due to COVID a lot easier than I could tolerate them losing because of bad defense.

;)

No opinion provided on what division is better this year; only statistical facts offered.

AL East teams have staged a comeback to narrow their losing record at 75-77 this year in head-to-head competition against the AL West.

AL East teams have inflated their win totals with a 54-32 interleague record against the weak NL East while AL West teams have deflated their win totals with a 43-49 record against the far tougher NL West.

Draw whatever conclusion ... or no conclusion at all.

Not much disappointment in a young Seattle team that in Houston today won its 76th game after a preseason forecast that called for 74 wins:

The Mariners lose only starter Tyler Anderson and reliever Joe Smith to free agency after this season.

How will the season end for the Sox?

We will face TOR in the WC game. Then we are going to face TB and finally the CHW in the ALCS.

We are going to play the WS vs SFG. Once there anything can happen.

Sorry, this poll is now closed. This vote doesn’t count.

Looks like the A.L. Division races are settled. There are five teams fighting for two wild card spots. My guess is that it will be the Sox and either the Yanks or Blue Jays. Not sure which one I would rather face. Winner plays the Rays in the ALDS. Tough situation , but the best we can hope for at this point.

So your prediction is Seattle keeps their streak alive and misses the postseason again?

To make the postseason , Seattle would need to have the stars align in perfect Harmony.
