It does look real bad, but I'm far from convinced we are toast.

I still love our chances, and the last 6 weeks should be real interesting with so many good players joining the 26.

My god.....look at all this whining, we went from winning to whining.

There's still 1/3 of the season left. Teams have ups and downs. Ye of little faith in here.

Game threads are the worst thing to judge fans by, however.

That's only because I stopped posting after the 3rd inning.

You’re right. We have lost 7 of our last 10 and 5 straight. One being to trash Detroit…..

Whoop whoop. Have faith folks. We are super duper!! Not sure what you want? Fans are realistic. This team absolutely blows right now and are now out of first in the division. I get being optimistic, and wanting this team to turn it around but there is also realism. This team has been atrocious lately and the last two games haven’t even been fun to watch. We are now in a wild card spot with the Yankees just a handful of games behind us…. Again that is just being realistic.

We are allowed to praise the team when they are playing good and we damn sure are allowed to say when the team blows chunks which right now they do. All I am saying, if they keep this up for another week and lose against Toronto and Tampa again we won’t even be in a playoff spot. This team also has shown nothing lately that they are turning this around. They look dead….. hopefully they turn it around, they have so all season so I’m not giving up yet but this is the ugliest stretch they have had all season and it’s coming at a terrible time against division opponents

lol, the one caveat I enjoy about sucking is seeing other people freak out.

Listen, this team could implode, this team could not make the playoffs. But it's even more likely they're just going through a funk and will be fine. 100 win teams still lose close to 40% of their games. Take your panties off and put your pants back on....there's plenty of baseball left to play.

The division opponents reinforced their teams for this stretch. Bloom did not provide the required reinforcements for the Red Sox. Edited by a700hitter

Sadly a reminder of how few females participate on boards like this.

Is it really a coincidence that the last time the Sox had a notion of contending (summer of '19) -- and passed on significant upgrades -- the team immediately lost eight straight after the deadline? To paraphrase Merloni in the hour after that deadline: "The GM is telling the clubhouse -- in Mookie's last year -- he doesn't think they're good enough! Done."

Agreed! I am glad we are almost done with the Yankees..... they are getting hot, and we got them early on..... But we definitely are out matched against Tampa.

Let me guess, you're one of those "Way to go guys, we really tried and I am proud of the season even though we sucked down the stretch" type fans. Yuck. I call it the way I see it.... I didn't say the season is over, I said we are on life support which we are. We are now out of first place in the division, and the Yankees are 5 games behind us. If this keeps up we will be out of a wildcard spot. That is a FACT!

Sorry, I will speak your language..... WOOOOO HOOOOOOO GO SOX GUYS! I am proud of the heart this team has showed during this stretch of suckage. They are really trying and let's just be proud of them. Remember, we get awards for participation!

2011 is a better comparable.

I think the biggest thing with me is if you have a very talented team and go through a rough patch.... You just expected you will get out of it like the Dodgers and Padres earlier this year..... The sox although have a good offense, the pitching is atrocious. This is the team I expected. Richards still can't go 5 innings, Pivetta has not been good at all lately, E Rod is inconsistent and Perez is Perez....... The only game I am confident that we can win is when Nate pitches, and we even blew that. If we had a prime Sale back, and signed Scherzer then maybe I wouldn't be in such a panic. Those are guys that can rebound.

But, does anyone honestly think guys like Richards will get it together? He needs to be off the team, and Perez is no better.... Perez gets a bit of a pass because he is our 5th guy. Pivetta started the season good, so I am holding hope he can return to that. As it stands right now we have something like the bottom 9 rotation in the entire league. You just aren't going to win many games with pitching like that. It is what it is.

That's a whole lot of assuming for a guy who doesn't get all worked up over a little skid. Am I disappointed? yes, am I concerned? of course. But I'm not freaking out because a good team is doing what every good team does every single year. If they have an entire bad month and drop to 3rd I'll be very concerned.

I call it how I sees it too, and I see this happen time and time and time and time again. And I call what I also see is people getting all upset and dramatic over small sample sizes.

You guys do realize that teams lose? and that good teams lose to bad teams? and that even world series winners have losing streaks. We've had a bad 2 weeks and 1/3 of the season has yet to be played. That's plenty of time to recover, and plenty of time to fall out either. Enjoy the freaking ride and have a little patience before you start freaking out.

Here I thought I was being patient lol. Dropping out of first in the division was kind of my breaking point...... Well, I shall give it a while longer then. After all, we do have Tampa coming up again (since sweeping them we are 1-5 against them) We lose that series..... We are in a world of hurt.

Exactly. 100%.

Maybe we end up dropping off all the way to the end, and all this gets thrown in our faces, but this team has a lot to be optimistic about and to cheer for, if one can just look beyond the nose on our faces.

Look at that amazing 2018 season, when we had the best record any Sox team ever had. Sure, we started out so strongly, the board posters never got this bad, but here are some poor stretches we had that wonderful season. It's why they play 162 games. We've lost 6 of 7 and 7 of 10. That's pretty close to these from 2018:

5 of 7 end of April

4 of 5 mid June

6 of 8 mid August

4 of 6 and 7 out of 11 mid September (same stretch)

It's totally natural for good teams to do poorly for stretches, and guess what?

When you go through losing stretches, you look real bad. You look like you can never win. Your offense is "tanking." Your pitching "sucks."

Then, things turn back around.

We may or may not turn things back around. That remains to be seen, but we will be adding some meat to this team, very soon- starting with Houck.

Sale

Schwaber

Arroyo

DHern

(not to mention Barnes)

I don't expect people to be all cherry and happy during a stretch like this, but it seems like all hope is lost for too many, here.

2018 we had much better pitching. As I said in a previous post, if we had Sale (like how Sale was in 2018) and Scherzer I would feel much more confident.....Hell even 2018 E Rod. He is just not himself this year.... I am not saying he won't ever return to form, but this year it hasn't been pretty for him. Other than Nate, I really don't trust anyone on the rotation ESPECIALLY Richards to get a win anymore. E Rod is up today with an ERA of 5.60 against a pitcher who has an ERA of 3.41.... Once again I am not liking our chances. I am not trying to be doom and gloom here, the numbers speak for themself.

I will be the first one here eating crow if the Sox go on a 7 or 8 game winning streak.... But they have shown nothing in the last 6 games against Tampa that they can hang with them (which is why we are 1-5 against them since the first series of the season where we swept them)

The recent numbers "speak for themselves."

We lost Sale & ERod for part 2018.

Porcello had a 13 game stretch where he had a 5.38 ERA.

Many of us wanted Joe Kelly left off the playoff roster.

Pitchers can look real bad then good again.

Perez and Pivetta were pitching like our best starters for pretty long stretches, this year. Sure, they don't have the histories of Price, Porcello, Sale and ERod (actually, ERod's history wasn't all that great pre-2018), but there is hope just one from Richards, Perez or Pivetta do well again, or two "regress to their norm."

With Sale & Houck joining the rotation, we may just need 1 to do well enough.

Our pen is still looking great.

Does anyone really think our offense sucks? That it's all been a fluke, and it is finally being exposed?

Getting Schwarber by trade and Arroyo back from the IL, should make this offense better than we saw earlier in the year.

Recent trends are significant, but they do not predict the future. Over and over, we see the same things happen, and we never learn from it.

Also, I chose 2018 not to compare this team to that one. Of course that team was much better, especially on paper and going into the season. I chose that season to show that even the very best teams have stretches like the one we are in now.

I don't see this team as the best in the league, and I didn't even when we had the best record. My point is about not thinking a bad stretch defines the time as a whole.

It's a baseball forum. It's supposed to be about an exchange of ideas and opinions. True , some folks get a little too smug and all knowing about theirs, but that's okay. Have a nice day.

I expect we are gong to wish they got a hitter with better plate discipline than Schwaber as plate discipline has been this team's problem. The league appears to have caught onto that.

The end of 2011 was a nightmare, but there was a shitload of bickering during 2012 between PG, Fred, SCM, you, UN? and a whole bunch of posters. That takes the cake IMO.

Though my favorite day on here will always be posters freaking out over Theo's trip to go get AGon and Theo getting on the plane without a contract. The on again off again contract rumors were hilarious to follow because it was a roller coaster on here. I was stuck at the mall that day shopping for baby stuff and just remember how entertaining the board was.
