Intentionally or unintentionally, he’s doing a marvelous job of mocking the Ghost

I'm not sure Ghost can be mocked. Maybe he's mocking us. I put him on ignore and he still dominates threads.

Well if they stick with this rotation they better hold their breath. None of these guys have been good lately.

Yeah, they have gradually unraveled.

We add Sale, we add Houck, and it's up to Chaim to add one more.

Schwarber has played 1B in the past (Cape league), just not since becoming a professional.

I think that puts him one up on Franchy Cordero...

Well, the Rockies have said they have no plans to move Gray, which is GM Speak for "Dazzle me!"

Eovaldi has a 2.47 ERA over his last 7 starts.

Perez, for all the grief he takes on this board, has a 3.55 ERA in his last 7 starts. He also has only given up more than 3 ER twice since April, but as those came in back-to-back starts maybe they got more memorable..

I am not talking Eolvaldi. Heck even Pivetta has been awful in his last 3 starts. Don’t know if he’s injured but he’s terrible. ERod blows same for Richards.

Per an old MLBTR article, the following SP should be available (ordered in their likelihood of being dealt)

Jon Gray, Colorado

Michael Pineda, Min

Kyle Gibson, Tex

Jose Berrios, Min

Zack Davies, Cubs

Merrill Kelly, AZ

Caleb Smith, AZ

Alex Cobb, Angels

Andrew Heaney, Angels

Charlie Morton, Braves

Drew Smyly, Braves

Kyle Hencricks, Cubs

John Means, Balt

Obviously, all 13 will not be dealt. Maybe 3 or 4 will be. Any preferences?

Rockies say they’re not trading gray. Maybe they’re bluffing but that’s what they said.

In the 3 games they have put Cordero at 1b, they've been outscored by 10 runs. That is how bad he is defensively there!

My guess is they'll give him a QO and think they'll get better value there than whatever deals have been proposed.

I mentioned that earlier. It’s a boringly old GM tactic…

There is still some good pitching available.

I guess it depends on how much Bloom thinks the "win now" idea matters.

We know he values the future highly, but the pressure to go for it, this year, must be there.

My first choices would be Means, Berrios, Hendricks and Morton- in that order, but not if it coasts way too much.

I think we settle for Gray, Pineda or Boyd (not on your list).

Weird to add a lefty bat. You’ve got some good lefty hitters and your park is difficult for them. I’d have though Aguilar since he’s got light tower power and could utilize it with the monster in LF

Actually, if history is accurate, LH bats do well in Fenway.

@JonHeyman

Three AL East teams have been the most active pursuers of Twins star José Berríos — Jays, Rays and Red Sox. A fourth, the Yankees, also checked. At least 6 teams in.

Over Berrios or Means?

You must love his Ivy League pedigree

They are similar production wise and Hendricks is here longer. Means is interesting and would be controlled for longer, but IDK.

Yeah after the massive flops like Williams, Yastrzemski, Boggs, and Ortiz, you’d think the Sox would learn a lesson about lefties at Fenway…

Over the past 5 years, Berrios is 18th in fWAR and Hendricks is 21st. Both have about 720 innings pitched. Most of their other stats are fairly close together. I don't think you can look at them and say that Berrios is by far the superior pitcher.

I’m actually not a fan of the soft-tossing Hendricks. But he certainly has had his successes.

I do like Berrios and Means. Also Heaney on the rare occasion he’s healthy. And the recent successes of Morton and Smyly (whose another IL trip waiting to happen)…

Gun to my head:

Berrios > Hendricks > Means

Hendricks is the sweet spot of production, control and price. I bet he'd be cheaper than Means or Berrios.

Tanner Houck was optioned to Worcester after Wednesday night's game. It's a short term move. He's scheduled to pitch in one of the double headers on August 7th against the Jays. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

That does seem like an odd question for a gun-toting hoodlum to ask…

You can't be serious.

Why not? Of course he's had a great half-season. But isn't he more likely to 'regress to the norm' (.230) than suddenly to become a player he has not been until this year?
