I believe Schwarber would have been a better fit for the Yankems than Rizzo. I think this is more proof just how bad a GM Cashman is.

In Cashman's defense on that, Schwarber isn't healthy right now.

Jon Morosi reports (1 hr ago) that the Red Sox have talked to the Rangers about Kyle Gibson:

He's better this year, but is he an upgrade over Perez?

I'd take him over Richards for sure.

And Yanks need a winning streak sooner than later. They can't tread water for 2 more weeks. If that happens, they are done.

So what is Bloom's defense in trading for a corner outfielder on the IL ? I'm guessing it is not his last deal of the day and the master plan will become clear.

That's the million dollar question--is Kyle Gibson for real or not? If the Red Sox believe he is for real, I can understanding wanting to trade for him.

I'll take Gibson over Jon Gray. I'm not sold on Gibson but I think there is a chance that he has evolved into a better pitcher and that he will continue to perform at a pretty high level.

Very true. You could also add Pete Runnels(man, I'm old) to that list.

I'm with you ,SS. I still play catch with my grandson using a 1Bman glove Pete Runnels gave to me in 1964, when he wass a member of the Houston Colt .45s, along with Nellie Fox, eddie Casco, Hal Brown, walter Bonds, Rusty Staub, Jerry Grote, Walt Williams, John Bateman and Jimmy Wynn.

True, but the more I think about the trade, I'd rather the SOX have Schwarber than Rizzo. Hopefully, Bloom can work out an extension on Kyle.

Pete was a very good player on a very bad SOX team.

There were reports that the Yankees were trying to acquire Schwarber and so maybe the Red Sox outbid them? A.Ramirez is a pretty solid pitching prospect and what did the Yankees give up for Rizzo? An older pitcher who is probably a bullpen arm and an interesting lottery ticket in Alacantara. To obtain Kyle S. the Yankees needed to go higher than that and Cashman has a history of prospect hugging.

Still needs help down the stretch. Schwarber's injury must not be very serious. Maybe he believes he's selling high on Aldo Ramirez?

Perhaps because neither player is worth a 40 man roster spot in the offseason.

Not going to be a concern for a few months

Also Pesky and Billy Goodman.

No I’m not old enough to have seen either of them play…

I doubt the Sox tried to keep the Yankees from getting Schwarber.

I do wish they had prevented them from getting Gallo..

The next DFA guy will be Danny Santana. He'll be replaced by Munoz IMO.

I’m fine with that. Should have been done 6 weeks ago..

Not good on Kyle Gibson:

Gibson was once considered one of then best starting pitcher targets, but he’s struggled quite abit lately, including an 8-walk performance his last time out … which followed an 8-ER performance the time before that.

Since Berrios probably ends up elsewhere--the Padres, Blue Jays, or Rays--the Red Sox should focus on acquiring a relief pitcher IMO.

Less than 4 hours to the deadline and the biggest player traded today was Shawn Armstrong.

Massive flurry coming soon or will it dwindle away into nothing?

Damn, how could I have forgotten Lynn? A perfect player for Fenway. He was never as good after he left Boston.

Yep, Berrios to the Blue Jays. They probably gave up some really good prospects.

Austin Martin, last year’s 5th overall pick and a very slick car, along with RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson, who they acquired in the Marcus Stroman trade…
