Renfroe's base running blunder was a killer.

How about Vazquez's performance? Pretty hard to get half your team's hits, make a great play in the last inning, and still be the goat.

Posted
What walk are you referring to? Margot got a base hit, stole second and then 3rd

All this with two outs. Barnes has become somewhat unreliable. The guy’s not automatic.

If he was automatic, wouldn't that make him a cyborg?

Put it this way. Barnes is not giving me confidence being a closer. Started the season well b it has been extremely hittable lately and shaky. Not sure he’s out answer.

Before the Tampa series I posted that I would be very happy if the SOX went 3-3 against the Rays and Yankems. Now I would be ecstatic.

Same considering the Sox haven't played well at home

And our starting rotation is awful. Pivetta was absolutely fantastic tonight though

He threw a wild pitch; it happens. I'm not worried about Barnes. Now starting pitching? That I'm worried about. That's the elephant in the room.

Very disheartening loss of the game and series. Pivetta was brilliant. The bullpen was fine. But the position players--the lineup--were miserable at bat, in the field, and on the base paths.

Well he’s also given up 6 hits, 4 runs in his last 6 closes. Those aren’t exactly super numbers either. But I do agree, the starting rotation is what is scary. Which is why I’m so disgusted it is the offense that s*** the bed tonight.

Sometimes, as I've said many times before, you have to tip your cap to the opposition's pitching. If we're gonna praise Pivetta's performance tonight, and rightly so, we've gotta recognize the other team's pitching performance.

No error by Vaz, and maybe we aren't complaining.

The run tonight was unearned.

Agreed. He pitches a beautiful game. Both did. Just frustrating.

Beat the Yankees tomorrow and make this right

First place was nice for those few days haha

We have to hope 700 keeps bashing Pivetta. Every time he bad mouths him, boom! Pivetta turns into our ace.

Hey!! Let me sulk dammit! I also found out I’m out of bologna for a late snack. Just a bad night all around :(

Gonna have to eat bland chicken breast. Great

I thought Vazquez called a good game behind the plate, but he is also capable of incredible stupidity. Like getting picked off of 2b by the catcher. More importantly, by throwing to 2b--actually a bad throw that went to CF--he put a baserunner on 3b with Barnes and his big knuckle curve on the mound. Then he calls for nothing but knuckle curves. He was doing everything possible to convert Margot's 2-out single into a home run.

Renfroe on 2b was already picked off if that liner was caught, so stopping to see if it was caught was stupid.

Dalbec can't get from 3b to home on a passed ball to the backstop, but Margot can do it when the passed ball only goes 10 feet to to Vazquez's right.

Max, you do realize that a knuckle curve is not the same as a curve, right?

Yes, I do. They are held differently. But of course I can't see how the ball is gripped on any given pitch and rely on what the mlb gameday graphics say. Also, the knuckle curve seems to break more than a regular curve.

As I just said, yes, I do. But my real point isn't curve vs. knuckle curve but simply a curve, knuckle or otherwise, that works. Pivetta has one and Richards lost his.

Okay, it just seems like every time you type curve, your keyboard is autocorrecting to knuckle curve.

It’s all good. I just don’t think that many guys throw an actual knuckle curve.

We won't finish the remaining 13 games against the Rays until after the trade deadline. Should be interesting what the standings will look like at that time.

I had to look it up, and yes, they moved the trade deadline to 4pm on July 30th to avoid trades during games.

We play TBR the night of the 30th and then 12 more times.

Completely agree, and we do need that reminder. But we did fritter away that one chance and our boneheaded catcher helped the Rays manufacture that one run from a single, a terrible throw, and a wild pitch.

I actually have a pretty wild keyboard that types all kinds of mistakes, so I usually edit before entering.

Hey the bullpen represents an Army of arms. They come in waves now. I'm surprised they have not had to lengthen the bench out there. It does represent a problem for the modern manager though. I don't see much difference between rolling bones and what they do now other than trying to get the right L/R matchup for the first batter a reliever. faces. That is first of a minimum of three. Beyond rolling bones.....what....Tarot cards......witches brew.......voodoo priests? I know......a phone call to the computer room. "Come on....give me something.....PLEASE!!!"
