Oh this is rich. I would like to have seen Cora try to replace Bob Gibson or anybody of that era in this situation. Cora would have gone back to the dugout in a grocery bag full of body parts.

WTF, Cora.

Taylor could screw up, but it's definitely the right move. Pivetta was not at all reluctant to leave the game. He was getting tired, clearly. He also was not going to go 9 innings. No way.

Tonight in this game I realize just how good Cora is and why I am thankful that none of us get to call the shots.

Great call to bring in Taylor for the 3d out. Pivetta was more than happy to leave the game, and no way, no how was he going 9 innings. The point is to win the game this game and at the same time not ruin Pivetta's army in a silly pursuit of a no-hitter.

IMO

Taking out Pivetta was the right move- no matter what happens next.

I agree. Would have love to see him go for the no hitter but I agree.

If only!

Well Gibson and his era of pitchers had the 15" mound through 1968. He would have just been getting warm at 100 pitches.

Maybe with your pitcher throwing a no-no, a manager might want to put a better defenseman at 1st base? Looks like Cora forgot Marwin's on the team.

It's also 0-0 and we need runs.

Marwin is anti-runs.

Maybe modern players are.

I don't think they are as mentally tough as players from the past. They are certainly in better physical condition than players of the past. Imagine if we had 10 team leagues for a total of 20 teams of players in this physical condition. Imagine the baseball we would be seeing.

There were players in tremendous physical condition. But I think they were just that way without all the modern physical training regimens. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Earnie Banks, Mantle before that stupid sprinkler head took his legs....those guys were phenomenal physical specimens. You could have convinced me they were aliens from outer space. I would have believed it.

If we lose this series it will be on this offense.

Wrong. If you will just read this game thread, you will realize that the culprit is Cora for not leaving Pivetta in the game.

As for the rotten hitting, some credit has to go to the Rays pitching. That said, the lineup has royally screwed up scoring opportunities with abysmal baserunning.

Great point. I'm a firm believer that excessive weight room usage causes more injuries.

C'mon, MAX. You don't have to defend Cora all the time. He's not god; at least I don't think he is. Is there like a Cora Cult out there?

Give me a break dude. You gotta be able to score runs. Pitching has done what it could do.
