We've scored 3 runs in 4 innings.

How is Odorizzi "mowing us down?"

He's not. I missed Bogie's home run. Also, it's just possible Eovaldi is throwing a tad batter the past two innings even though the Astros had the bases loaded in the 4th. So, yes, I probably need to fall off the stealing signals hobby horse. Again.

Tough break(s) for Eovaldi. Horrible 3d inning, but pitched well thereafter and should have been rewarded with the third out in the 6th.

It wouldn't surprise me, if teams were still stealing signs. The Astros lost 2 draft picks, so maybe they are not one of them.

Just got home...4 hits, Santana Leaing off.....I'm out.

Verdugo sits with a bad back and we have Santana who is not working at leadoff and Gonzalez who is a #9 hitter batter lower in the order. The Sox have not done much to improve and the Astros are a very solid team. Whatever they are doing, they are superior to the Sox right now. Would like to see management make moves to improve but due to the Olympics commitments, I don't think they have the horses to do so.

No comeback victories for the Red Sox against the Astros. Our starting pitching gets pummeled by good lineups.

They are 3-0 against Tampa, who is the second highest scoring team in the AL...

This team is going all streaky, now.

Jekyll & Hyde.

Really they just seem to struggle against teams from Texas. 2-8 against the Texas teams. 35-15 against everyone else...

Fun night. Fenway has life again, much more than it had in April. Not so fun result but losses don't seem to bother me anymore. My life is still pretty great. I don't mind.

Make that 35-17 against everyone else.

The Red Sox are 7-13 against the AL West and 30-12 against everyone else.

Our pitching is 12th in the league in WHIP and they have given up the 5th most hits — the Rangers, A’s, O’s and Twins (all horrid except for the A’s) have yielded more hits.

Before tonight's game our pitching was...

ALL MLB

T 8th in ERA- at 90

4th FIP- at 86 (1st in AL in FIP)

3rd best HR/FB at 9.7%

1st BAbip at .324 (next team at .308)- nice D, huh? (We have the 4th lowest Hard Hit% against in MLB, yet the highest BAbip.)

22nd in WHIP (11th in AL in WHIP at 1.35.)

Glad you had a good night man. No shame in losing to a great team. Astros have a fantastic team. Is what it is.

A team without Verlander!

Also second in the AL (behind Chicago) in FIP, which is based on solely walks, strikeouts and home runs.

Maybe defense is a bigger issue than pitching?

Is FIP really all that meaningful? I honestly have no idea. Seems to me if it was a really really big deal, Rick Porcello would be pitching in the majors this year.

I think it’s as valuable as any other stat.

There are things about FIP that you can’t say about WHIP, such as is it doesn’t get influenced by defense and it doesn’t treat home runs, walks and infield singles equally...

So what about Porcello and his 3.33 FIP last year?

So what about Porcello and his 3.33 FIP last year?

Why doesn't he have a job yet? Especially in light of all the injuries this year?

I don't think citing a single pitcher who had a good FIP and did not get a contract means the stat is not valuable. It might mean it is simply underappreciated. A lot of his other stats, like his 3.60 K/BB were also very good. Does this mean K/BB should be disregarded?

Plus we don't even know how much money he was asking for, or if he was failing physicals or what?. It is odd that a 31yo former Cy young winner could not get a deal but pitchers coming back from Asia like Chris Flexen did. Maybe what this tells us is a lot of GMs did not make a good decision.

He also struggled to get a good deal the year before. I think he is just a very underappreciated pitcher overall...
