There is a chance we have the best record in the AL after tonight!

Again!

Sox has used only one other starting pitcher, Houck twice, outside their 5 starters this year.

White Sox is next with 4 games started by pitchers outside of their top 5.

5 other teams including Yankees, Cubs and the Orioles have 7 games started by pitchers outside their top 5.

We've been healthy other than E Rod skipping a turn at beginning of the year.

(We used 16 starters in 60 game, 2020 season)

If you look at all our ring years, they all had a lot of starts from the top 5 or 6 starters.

That’s a good sign for 2021, but technically, Sale is a top 5 starter, so we’ve had a lot of starts from our #6 and 2 from our #7.

That was the Curt Schilling credo. As a person he's nutty as a fruitcake, but he does have some pretty good baseball knowledge.

Somewhere on a Tampa Rays forum somewhere on the net, there’s a thread titled “Those Pesky Red Sox Won’t Go Away.”

They’re the defending AL champs. We’re drafting 4th. We’re the pests here…

They have Rays forums?

He stole the idea from me.

When you look back at our winning and non winning seasons and how much or little the top 5 starters started games, it is sometimes hard to determine who the top 5 were.

Do you go by who the top 5 were believed to be at the start of the year?

Also, sometimes a trade is made for a #2, 3, 4 or 5 starter, and should that mess up the study or further prove that having 5 healthy starters all year greatly enhances your chances at winning a ring?

How important is it to just make the playoffs and having all 5 starters healthy for the playoffs?

Then how about the attendance at a Van Damme movie?

Maybe. "Two men enter, one man leaves" is from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It's spoken by national treasure Tina Turner.

And in the classic country song 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", the lyric is "When two men go out to face each other, only one returns."

Can't believe they stole that line from a Mel Gibson movie.

True classic country folks. Though I prefer when the singer does a Boy Named Sue.

I believe “A Boy Named Sue” was written by Shel Silverstein…

At least the Seattle Mariners helped the Red Sox on Thursday night with a walk-off win against the Rays.

There are certain times when I really like the Mariners.

Like again Friday night after the 36-36 Seattle Mariners shut down the defending American League champs 5-1.

We now have 3 favorite teams:

1 Red Sox

2 Whoever's playing Yanks

3 Whoever's playing Rays

2 and 3 may be reversed depending on standings.

Ha ha. For me, I think the only time 2 and 3 would be reversed is when the Yankees are pretty much eliminated, so it would be pretty late in the season. If the Rays and the Yanks play a series right now, I'm pulling for the Rays.

Me, too.

Not just because I hate the Yanks.

IMO, they are still the team to beat. Expect some trades by them, maybe soon, to make them better.

Suddenly, the seemingly unbeatable Pesky Rays have lost 5 in a row.

As much as I'd like to count the Yankees out, I can't. As we have already seen many times this season, one or two weeks can make a big difference.

Losing Glasnow was a kick in the head for the Rays.

Somehow they will find some 28yo career minor leaguer to pick up the slack...

Posted

The Seattle Mariners are 9-5 (.643) against AL East teams (but have not played the Yankees or Blue Jays).

AL West teams are a combined 47-39 (.547) against AL East teams.

They always seem to take these hits but still manage to not miss a beat.

I'm not sure where you're going with this, but I'm not willing to grant you that the AL West is a better division than the AL East. :)

That said, for today, it's Go Mariners and Go Athletics!

Yeah, we've come to expect them to do that. We'll see if they can do it this time.
