Since they lost last night, I need to tell you what I REALLY feel about the 2021 Sox!

Kind of strange that we have played the Orioles ten times and have yet to play the Yankees. Did MLB set the schedule to build the rivalry until more fans are allowed in the park ? Was that the thinking when they made the schedule or is it just coincidence?

You know, that actually may be one of the reasons. Dodgers and Giants and Cubs and Cardinals haven't played yet either, but both will play two weekends from now.

A lot of posters forget about Yairo Munoz? That guy was a wake-up call in the nightmare of 2020; quick bat, hustle on the bases, diving in the outfield.

Seems the Sox have forgotten him, too -- we never hear or read his name much when there's talk of future call-ups... although Munoz potentially seems like a guy who can impact games in a lot of places, like a younger (more reckless?) Kike or Marwin. Maybe, unbeknownst to fandom, he has some Orlando Cabrera bones in his ashtray...

He's not on the 40 man roster, so he's probably not going to be an instant call-up, but he does seem more ML ready than Duran & Downs.

I can see why they called up Arauz after Kike & Arroyo went on the IL, and I think Santana gets the next call, but Munoz may be 3rd.

He's only had 19 ABs, this year.

He's a lefty killer, but the bad part is that he's on the wrong end of a possible Dalbec platoon.

Ockimey hits left handed.

Even if Means pitches a no hitter every time out, they'd probably still finish last.

Maybe. I'm not really a believer in Toronto because of their pitching. Maybe it gets better when Pearson comes back?

I regret the Pablo/Hanley/Castillo signings much more than the Price signing. At least Price made contributions to success.

At least the Price signing made sense.

What's even worse is that had we signed Scherzer instead of Pablo/HRam/Castillo, we wouldn't have signed Price the next year!

Stop. It hurts.

From what I've seen their biggest strength is their BP. Like I posted earlier about how tough the AL East could be, even the team that finishes last will not be easy to beat.

What ever team finishes first in that division, it will definitely be a struggle.

Good chance that both WC come from the East.

aren’t we like 5-5 vs the O’s?

I’m not sure playing them a lot is why we have the best record in MLB.

Season series:

0-3

3-0

3-1

Sox are 6-4

How many of those teams have used games against the Orioles to get over .500?

I would say not many since the O's are 16-19. Take out the first series against BOS and they are .500.

I do remember distinctly that a week after the SOX signed Price, the Nats signed Scherzer. Oh, well, hindsight is golden.

No. Max signed with the Nats in January 2015. Price signed with BOS in December 2015.

Schedule makers don't do much thinking ahead of time.

Kind of a weird reason. It'd be cool to have at least one good rivalry series each weekend.

He was DFA'd. He's sitting in WOO playing alright so far. I think he's just a UTIL guy, but the Sox like Marwin better.

Arauz gets the call because he's on the 40 AND plays adequate defense. If Xander went down with a long term injury, I bet they'd call up Arauz and have him bat 9th.

With Arroyo and Kike down at the same time, and Santana between Munoz and the majors, I wonder if Munoz will ever see another chance with the Sox.

If he can't get the call up now, when can he?

Yes, so would it take 4-5 strategic injuries for Munoz to get a chance?

Yes, he did, and I am grateful for that. I still find it hard to imagine us losing without him.

And as Slasher used to say, we could have won that year without Betts. I think someone also pointed out we could have won without Kimbrel, too.

Quite the little game to play.

Without Sale, too.

Good chance that Munoz keeps hitting and Santana doesn't. That'd be when.

He's the modern day Ciriaco. Only difference is I think Munoz could be decent.

We could have won with Eovaldi, Pearce and 23 replacement players.

LOL

We could have won without Eovaldi, since the only game of the WS he helped in, we lost.

We're pretty much down to Pearce, and Beni for that catch.

I really like Munoz. I'd like to see him get a shot, but if it means 5 guys have to get hurt, I'll put my wishes aside.

Santana has an opt out date coming up soon. He'll get the first look for that reason, alone.

Or they could just be traded?

Or they could just be traded?

So, he can play?

Can we trade Arroyo or Kike for a good pitcher?

Do we want to do that?

Maybe we trade Santana rather than call him up.

Maybe we trade Chavis and Arauz for a pitcher at the deadline.

Quite the little game to play.

But an enduring truth behind it. Winning in baseball takes a couple of squads more than a superstar. The very best starter only pitches 1 in 5 games--and these days rarely averages 7 innings per game--the best reliever 1 of 9 innings, the best hitter 1 of 9 positions in the batting order. And that's why spending a quarter of a billion dollars or more for one player, no matter how good, makes no sense to me.
