You know that old adage, hope springs eternal? I think that takes on extra meaning this year.

Put aside everything that happened in 2020, both with the Red Sox, and with the rest of the world. Turn the page over and start fresh. Let your hope rejuvenate from the ground up.

I personally lacked interest in baseball last year. I was mentally and emotionally preoccupied with other things, and I'm sure most of you felt similarly. I didn't even want baseball to come back. And this was before I knew we would finish in last place.

But, this year. Oh baby, we're back. Baseball is meant to be played in 162 game seasons, starting in the April chill, lasting through the dog days of heat and humidity, and into the dark, cold nights of October. We have reached a public health situation that is just healthy enough to feel good about the world - and ourselves - again, and to dive in ten toes deep with our favorite baseball team, uniting over the pointless banter and silly arguments that remind us that all is well enough in our lives to get to caught up in discussions about the lineup, our dear friend WTF Cora, or which reliever is the biggest bum. This may be the most excited I've ever been for a season, and I hope y'all feel the same way.

LHP John Means vs RHP Nathan Eovaldi

2:05 PM start

Weather looked iffy earlier in the week, but it has improved. Cloudy with a chance of light rain. Not overly warm, but who cares? We're playing baseball in Boston in April.

Nice intro. I'm also pumped for this season, and not just for the Yanks. But also to stalk these boards after bullpen implosions, bad managerial decisions, and Mookie displacement syndrome ;)

Looking forward to another year of it all, best of luck.

You too. I'm actually kind of pumped for the opening series between the Yankees and the Jays.

Agreed.. pumped up for 2021. Hoping they surprise me with a Wild Card run. They can't be as bad as last year, right?!

Projected line up versus the lefty starter:

1. R Hernandez CF

2. L Verdugo RF

3. R JD Martinez DH

4. R Bogaerts SS

5. L Devers 3B

6. R Renfroe LF

7. S Gonzalez 2B

8. L Dalbec 1B

9. R Vazquez C

The LHH Cordero and RHH Arroyo are on the bench with RHH Plawecki.

Some possible changes:

Vaz may be moved up to #7.

Arroyo may start at 2B, but I doubt it.

Cordero could start vs a tough lefty (in CF? with EHern at 2B?), but I doubt it.

This lineup will give us a 7-3 victory. Book it.

Vaz is getting stitches out tomorrow. I have him on fantasy team and he is listed as DTD. Plawecki may get the nod tomorrow

@PeteAbe

Xander Bogaerts has made 7 consecutive Opening Day starts at shortstop for the #RedSox (2014-20).

With one more, he will match Everett Scott (1914-21) for the most consecutive Opening Day starts at shortstop in team history.

@alexspeier

Kiké Hernández says he’s been looking at video of Orioles Opening Day starter for a couple weeks in anticipation of batting leadoff in Game 1.

He said he went to the Home dugout today and was struck by ‘the magic of Fenway’ in a way that he said was different than when he’d been in Boston as a visitor.

Magic of Fenway? It's filthy and old, with obstructed views and no parking.

None of those things apply to a player on the field, except maybe the clubhouses.

I'm not sure why, but my students are just not sharing my excitement for Opening Day! LOL

Let's go!

Maybe because your exams are too hard. :P

Did anybody else think it odd that Verdugo played LF and Renfroe RF in the last ST'ing game?

Didn’t give it much thought. Probably just wanted to see how it would work out. I dunno. ST is weird at times.

Especially with MLB's super-clever modern managers.

Let's go!

I put out a 'Wear your Red Sox Gear' extra credit bulletin this afternoon.

I have a no hat policy, but I may just "CANCEL" that harmful and antiquated policy!?

I'm seriously thinking about extending this to ALL home... ok, and away games for the entire season? Actually, I think I just made my first Executive Order of the school year?

Tough times call for bold actions!

:) GO SOX!

It doesn’t change the fact that the place is a dump.

Well, when you're 109 years old, I'm sure people will say the same about you

You've spent too much time in it. When you only get there once in a great while like me, you don't notice the bad things. ;)

They need to redo the seats. Thye are too small and uncomfortable, and down the RF line, they face towards LF/CF not the mound.

More and better bathrooms are needed.

The place has too much charm and nostalgia to be thought of as a dump.

I only notice the bad things if we lose the game that night :D

It depends on how obstructed your seat is.
