Plus two of those losses were entirely attributable to the stupid new runner on second rule in extras. Both extra inning losses came by 1 run and it was the extra runner that scored. Our extra inning win, we scored 4, so we’d win with the runner or not

That's really reaching.

Yeah it was really unfair that MLB put that rule in about the initial placement only against the Yankees.

I hate the initial placement. I hate 7 inning doubleheaders. And I hate the 3 batter minimum. But everyone has to play by the same rules...

Of course, I also hated the current college football overtime rules when they first went into effect. But over time, I have found they make the overtimes more exciting, probably because of the incredible ending to the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. I have my early doubts I will embrace these rules the same way, but sometimes all it takes is that one positive memory...

I only hate the DH rule in that it only applies to the AL, which is just flat out stupid. That would be like when the NFL adopted the 2 point conversions, but you could only do it in Detroit.

If I thought pitchers took hitting serously, I wwould campaign against th DH. But the overwhelming majority of them don't, and for good reason - they are not getting paid to hit. Sp just forego the pitcher hitting - a part of the game looked forward to by exactly zero fans - and get the DH in everywhere. No fan of the team at the plate has ever said "Thank GOD the pitcher is due up now!!" Now, fans of the team in the field? Yes. All of them say it.

This is taking too f***ing long for something that is an obvious improvement. Especially since MLB reportedly juiced baseballs to increase offense. So increasing offense was a priority, but you still let the worst hitters in the league - players who rarely if ever even practice it - come to bat? Get a commissioner with a brain cell, MLB!!!

We all know the DH will be universal, someday.

Why wait?

Apparently a lot of NL fans still like the extra element of strategy involved in letting the pitcher bat despite that no one actually employs that particular strategy anymore and hasn't since the advent of pitch counts. These fans undoubtedly still decry the advent of foul poles and how they destroyed the "last seen fair" rule...

I'm not sure most NL fans are against the DH. My opinion is they will like it after a very short time.

MLB: JUST DO IT!

Just saw a pitcher up to bat with the bases loaded and the count was 0-2. And he bunted foul. Yeah that's some great strategy

And see this is why teams like to have speedy leadoff hitters. You don't need someone to steal bases in front of your most productive hitters. But you do need someone who can avoid an inning-ending GIDP after the pitcher makes his inevitable out...

Swinging for the fences leads to a lot of strikeouts when you don't make contact, and a lot of ground balls when don't make great contact. Yankees seem to be trying to go yard all day, every day. And the pitching could really be better as well, but buy and large, the Yankees pitching has been at about the same level as the Sox thus far (minus Cole). Average pitching looks really good when you're scoring runs

Might be time to bring Ford back up. God they cannot hit.

That's what I've been thinking. Ford at least showed some ability in his one full season in 2019, is left handed (which is apparently the only reason we signed Bruce), is still relatively young, and is an actual first basemen. Bruce has been below replacement level for like the last 4 years.

The problem we are seeing will get magnified as the season’s change into fall. This team K’s far, far too much. Beyond Lemahieu (who’s K’s more than his typical this far) everyone is swinging for the fences. We need a different approach. With the ball no longer juiced, you cannot plan your entire offense around the long ball

Yanks actually have the 9th fewest K's in baseball so far. I read that a big part of the problem with their offense so far is the inordinate amount of ground balls they're hitting - 48% of balls in play are ground balls (3rd highest in MLB, and they averaged 43% the last couple of years) and they also lead the league in double plays (15 GIDPs in 12 games).

And Odor has been barely above replacement over the same period.

That's why I wonder if Cash is losing it.

I've yet to hear a credible response to the point about the Yankees having such incredible depth, especially on the younger side.

Why did they need to add Bruce & Odor?

For all the trash Yankee fans talk about the Sox farm, they don't seem to like using their own farm players. The only homegrown starters in the lineup are Gary Sanchez and Brett Gardner, and Gardner came up 13 year ago...

The only real minor league depth the Yanks have is in their starting pitching. Garcia/Schmidt/King are all young with upside.

On the position player side, Andujar is the only guy they could call up who would probably have any impact. But he's hurt anyway, and hasn't played consistently in over two years. The OF depth is pretty good on the ML level with Judge/Hicks/Frazier/Gardner/Tauchman but the IF depth is trash. Wade is a glove only guy, Ford played well in 2019 but I guess mgmt thinks it was a fluke otherwise he'd be playing first over Bruce and his .118 batting average, and yeah that's pretty much it. They traded Estrada last week to make room for Odor, who is older, less versatile, and probably a worse hitter. But at least he's left handed!

To feel good about themselves

Yes, the pitching depth was more heralded, and multiple injuries has been one reason they signed Bruce & Odor, but the fact that one or both are playing everyday, exposes one of two things (or both):

1) They are extremely injury prone (and have been for years).

2) They do not have the depth they bragged about.

OF:

Judge, Stanton, Hicks (looks solid)

Frazier, Tauchman, Gardner

Bruce & Florial

IF:

Andujar (IL), Urshela, Voit (IL)

LeMahieu, Torres, Wade, Ford

Odor & Peraza

C:

Sanchez & Higashioka

Coming into the year you had Andujar and Ford as options for 1b and Wade, Estrada for middle infield with the redundancy of Urshela and Lemahieu being able to shift over the diamond. I don’t know why they kept Bruce. I am really puzzled as to why they traded actual prospects for Odor and gave away Estrada. Really bizarre

And honestly, I’m perplexed enough to at least envision the need for a change at the top. He’s got a lot of rope, IMO, and maybe his moves work out, but I’m really scratching my head here

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I do not keep track of Yankee moves enough to remember getting rid of Estrada.

Picking up and having to play Bruce & Odor so much exposes something awful. You know more than I do about the root causes of it, but yes- "Bizarre."

Cashman needs to go. Period. (Boone goes by definition.)
