Think about what Theo had to do when he first went to the Cubs. He didn't make those significant moves until the team was ready.

Epstein and Bloom actually have something in common -- they both began second jobs on teams that got rid of Andrew Cashner. Of course, Theo got back Anthony Rizzo. Chaim had roster space freed up for, uh... lots of guys.

I actually am looking forward to the spring and I am hoping that what we saw from some of our young pitchers to close out the season was the real deal. I think that it is possible that management has solid expectations for them. if they perform well right out of the gate, signing the types of players that we are looking at right now won't look bad at all.

Agreed. I think management has solid expectations for them, as well as for some of the position players bouncing back or improving. I still think Bloom has a few more moves coming as well. By the time we are ready to start the season, the team will be in very good shape.

I think Theo and Bloom are very much cut from the same cloth.

I think that is a stretch.

In overall team building philosophy? I don't think it's a stretch at all. We haven't seen Bloom in action as much yet, but we will over the next few years.

Who’s getting more and more pissed off with every acquisition done by the other 2021 contending teams not named Boston?? No chance in hell this team contends for this year much less next. Bogey is going to opt out and Sale isn’t going to be reincarnated... that slider will be a thing of the past! Time for Bloom to lay some cards on the table!!

Are all the valuable FAs and trade bait players taken, already?

Can we at least wait until we see what our 2021 team will actually be before ripping Bloom a new one?

Sox signed J.D. Martinez on February 26th, 2018. Plenty of time to make moves. Market is slow. Most teams are sitting back. Pandemic took a lot of cash from teams. There won't be large crazy contracts this time around. Patience.

I do remember many posters going nutty about us not doing much that winter, too.

Now, if winter comes and goes and all we have to show for it is Perez, Renfroe, Andriese and some other 5th starter type, then I'll be joining the choir front & center.

I think Bloom and the Red Sox are acting with due deliberation and patience. It seems every time the Yankees make a move there is an over reaction that Boston must make an immediate counter move.

Let's be honest signing Kluber would have been a high risk move for Boston who already has three questionable top.of of the rotation arms in ERod Sale and Eovoldi. All three may come back strong in 21 but to expect four to shake off injuries and have good years is a "bridge too far" in my book.

One thing to keep in mind. No pitcher in MLB got stretched out last year with the short season. I expect every team is going to be quite judicious in how they manage their rotations in 21. I think depth will play a larger role next year then it has had in the past. It seems to me that Bloom is playing the long game.

Agreed. If we sign Odorizzi to 3 years, it would be a better signing than Kluber.

I'm also glad we did not outbid the Yanks for DJ.

You do realize the DJ signing is being widely considered by MLB pundits as a stroke of genius, right?

If bloom does nothing else this offseason, he is still light years ahead of desperate Dave!

Nasty ******** alert as always

Had the Sox used up most of their winter spending budget on DJ, it would not have been "genius."

We need pitching, pitching, pitching.

Your needs are different.

Your rotation is golden & rock solid.
