It's dumb point blank. No reason to put your starter at further risk of injury.

The way he's heading, he may be a better hitter than pitcher, before too long.

;)

Well, we know he's a better hitter than a dirt bike rider.

I think it is a great idea which is why it will never happen.

I'm not sure yet if I think it's a great idea or not, but I'm certainly intrigued by it. I'd have to think through what the ramifications would be. I do think that this would put more emphasis back on the starting pitcher, and I do like that.

It absolutely is. And that's why it's less popular on TV than football or baseball (even basketball), where you can do something else while the game is on and not miss anything.

That's an interesting take on it. I would think being action packed would be a reason more people would watch rather than a reason why they don't.

More and more recently. The youth movement on the PGA Tour and notable efforts to grow the game with children have dramatically increased the number of youth/young adult fans. I know a bunch of people from HS and college that are as crazy into golf (both playing and watching) as I am

What efforts is the PGA making to increase the popularity of the sport with younger fans? Do any of those efforts involve pace of play?

Probably because you enjoy it and embrace it so much. I think the debate is not over whether or not it is in your face, but whether or not you are bothered by it.

Fair.

Love to pull David Ortiz in the 5th inning.

Horrible.

Of course no one wants to have their DH pulled in the 5th inning. There would be a whole new level of strategizing to consider, as well as a shift in team building philosophy. As I said, I'm not sure if it's a great idea, but I'm not also not saying it's a horrible idea.

It's one of the dumbest ides I've heard.

I initially thought that having a runner on 2B to start extra innings was the dumbest idea I'd ever heard. After seeing it in play this season, I don't totally hate it.

I'm not arguing, they should have had universal DH a long time ago.

I actually don't mind watching pitchers hit. In fact, it can be exciting at times.

That said, whatever the rule is, it should be universal for both leagues.

If we keep "aggressively pursuing mediocrity" with our pitching, it could be another mess, but I have to think they are just making some insurance moves to cover Sale & Rodriguez for the beginning of the season, and are going to aggressively go after available talent.

I would love to see them also go after Marcus Semien for 2nd base, and we need one more solid OF.

WE STILL NEED 2 SPers. & a closer?

TALL ORDER!

This is not a great market for SPs. There are barely two worth signing.

Now relievers, on the other hand, are abundant. I’m getting disappointed with Bloom that he has not signed Brad Hand and Archie Bradley already...

I think we trade for a SPer like Taillon and sign 2-3 RPers

is this it for CF ? I mean are we a better OF now with who Benny patrolling CF ? Maybe Duran ? I’m disgusted with just how disgustingly slow the winter is now .I feel like baseball is about to die for so many people .No fans now an absolutely dead offseason that’s far too long in Free Agent signs.I can’t stand it now .I know it’s seen as impatient and overbearing.I don’t even know the pitchers you are wanting but I trust they are good and hope to see improvements soon .the offseason for baseball was exciting and I looked forward to it every year my whole life ....I dread it now .I don’t think baseball is healthy and it’s losing almost every diehard that I run around with.I truly hope for Boston it’s fans we can get CF improved and second. The pitching market besides sugano seems like a toss up to me this year .Bauer is asking a ton we out so I count on all of you guys to update us .

Most fans don't care about the offseason the way we do.

Baseball's problem isn't losing their diehards, because the only diehards they lose are the ones who pass away. The issue is that they aren't generating new diehards in the younger generations.

If the Sox don't make any additional moves in the OF (I highly doubt that to be the case), Verdugo would be in CF and not Beni.

Or Puello!

C'mon! Get on board! The bandwagon is leaving soon!!

Professionally, he's played CF the least, but he's only played LF a few more times than CF. About 63% of all of his starts are in RF.

Yeah but we have a guy for RF.

Puello is actually a decent defender. I would trust him in CF before I put Benintendi out there. If nothing else, Puello has a very strong arm. I am not even sure Benintendi has an arm. I think he just has flesh-colored glove fastened to the end of his sleeve...

Shaughnessey claimed the Red Sox haven't been this irrelevant since 1966. I would add Major League Baseball to that statement. So nobody needs to also include posters in the winter on a baseball forum. In a frozen market. In a pandemic.

We know where we stand... or fall.

Free agent data to date

Not counting the wo players who accepted the QO.

39 MLB signings. Over 1/4 (10 of 39) of them for less than $1mill

Only 2 contracts (Kim with SD and James McCann with the Mets) are longer than 2 years.

Highest AAV is Charlie Morton ($15mill). Second highest AAV is Drew Smyly ($11mill). In the last 4 seasons, Smyly has pitched 140 IP total with an ERA+ of 82. That's a worse ERA+ than Phillips Valdez, Ryan Weber, Chris Mazza, and Colten Brewer had for the Sox last year.

Highest total value is McCann ($40.6mill), followed by Kim ($28mill), Mike Minor ($18mill), Carlos Santana ($17.5mill), and Trevor May ($15.5mill).

The Sox have signed 2 free agents to MLB deals out of the 39 total. The Yankees have signed 0. The Dodgers have signed one, a pitcher not expected to pitch in 2021.

The most active team to date - the Kansas City Royals, with 4 MLB signings (Santana, Minor, Greg Holland, Michael Taylor). The Mets and Giants each have 3.

So, despite a complete dearth of activity, Bloom is actually more active on the FA market than most GMs, and it is a pretty safe to guess when all is said and done, the Royals will not be among MLB's most active teams...

Sox have mentioned that they are willing to move Verdugo to CF.

CHB forgets a lot of those 90's Sox teams and the empty stadiums when Nomar first started playing.
