“Dave Dombrowski, architect of two World Series winners, is more interested in the Phillies job than the Los Angeles Angels' GM vacancy, according to two sources, but only if he has complete autonomy.

Well, it's not like Dombrowski can ruin that pen.

As I said, self-important twit.

Dombrowski can take an underperforming star laden team and make them win. The Phillies should be better. That isnt a bad spot for DD

Is that an invite for DD to take Cashman's place with a star laden bunch of underachievers?

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Phillip has reached the absolute bottom of the barrel. Once they hire valentine to manage the team, they are officially a complete disaster!

It is a little strange how much time we spent dissecting past GM's and their moves. But it's something to jabber and debate and argue about.

Even if at a certain point we're just saying the same things over and over. :D

True, and DD seems to be living in the minds of his biggest supporters as much as his biggest detractors.

Yup, there's no Sox games to talk about this year. We also missed out on 100 regular season games to yell about.

I think this is the closest thing to profanity I have ever seen from Kimmi...

I originally thought she used a different vowel.

There is no question that what you said is true. What I personally can say though that for me I would never mention his name if it was not constantly revisited over and over by his detractors here on talksox. Oh well, if wasn't DD it would likely be some other already worked over topic such as John Henry's budget. lol

Or we can have another War on WAR post or trying to statistically dismiss choking?

Important things like the downfall of MiLB have no traction here.

I kinda feel the same. I rarely mention him, until some else does.

There are times his supporters bring up his name, first, or they still harp on Ben years after he's gone.

Where does that self-important twit, Dombrowski, get the nerve, the gall, the unmitigated gall, to actually express interest in the Philly job ? Sure he assembled one of the all time great teams in Boston , and won a championship plus an unprecedented three straight A.L.East titles , but he traded away all of our prized prospects and ruined the team for years to come. Now , he wants to do likewise in Philadelphia. Why ,even if he should get lucky again and win a championship in Philly , it would only really be because of the previous guy. And he would decimate the entire organization and destroy their future. The twit.

I'm not surprised he wants full autonomy. I'm assuming guys like Epstein and Friedman have it.

DD loves this one.

Probably true, but those guys also do not carry the same reputation as Dombrowski...

If his reputation is so bad, teams wouldn't be interested in him.

Anyway, we'll see if he gets what he wants.

Well, my point was his reputation and it's effect on his desire for total autonomy.

He's obviously among very few human beings on the planet worth considering for a MLB GM position, but that doesn't put him in the same class as the ones who are also not only on that exclusive list, but are regarded enough to get carte blanche. While there are Sox fans who only look at his track record here and do not blame/credit him with the current mess the team is in with their large declining contracts and depleted farm system, I can promise you not a single MLB owner or President of Operations feels that way. And that he did the same thing in Detroit does not help him.

I will not be surprised at all if another team hires him. I would be extremely surprised if he got total autonomy...

I think the only ones who truly have total autonomy are the owners. " Total Autonomy " was the late George Steinbrenner 's middle name.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. So that's what the T.A. in George T.A. Steinbrenner stood for. I always thought something else...

Seriously Denny, you give Dombrowski way too much credit. Way, way, way too much credit.

well i know the Sox starting pitchers are hoping Cora is hired. it will give them an extra month and a half off from working in Spring Training.

as for DD - thanks for the Cliff! and for failing to sign the greatest player to ever come through our system to a LTC.

DD wouldn't have failed to sign Mookie if the ownership was willing to pay whatever it took. You know that.

Maybe that was a fundamental disagreement between DD and JH and caused JH to move on?

What GM can’t sign a player if ownership is willing to pay “whatever it took”?

Making the budget work is a big part of being a GM...

We'll never know that, I guess.

But we do know DD is a big believer in paying top players top dollar.
