No chance you get him with a minor league deal. But he’s the kind of guy you throw a $5 mil guarantee at with vesting escalators tied to IP. I’d also throw in a vesting option at $15-$20 mil for 2022. If he pitches and is good, then you let him reach his escalators and you’ve got a great pitcher for 2 years. If he dies out, then you spent $5 mil, akin to couch cushion cash from Henry

No chance on a minor league deal? The guy has 36 IP since 2018. I do not see many teams if any throwing a lot of guaranteed money at him, especially since a lot of teams might not be spending at all.

A $5 mil guarantee isn’t a lot for a starting pitcher with multiple cy youngs.

No, but it is a lot for a pitcher who has missed almost all of the last 2 seasons.

He's become Tyson Ross with a better pedigree. And no one offered Tyson Ross an MLB deal last time he reached free agency. When you start using the phrases "$5 mill" and "multiple Cy Youngs" in the same sentence, that's an admission that there is something very wrong or very risky here.

Kluber only gets a guaranteed deal if he starts receiving multiple offers, which is possible, but certainly not a guarantee. In fact, there is no guarantee he could pass a physical...

I could see the Sox taking a dirt cheap flier on Kluber, assuming he can pass a physical. But Bloom's success story Charlie Morton is also probably on the radar, and he is familiar with Chris Archer as well. And there is the possibility of someone like Cole Hamels or Jake Arrieta receiving a short term deal...

Morton is from Delaware and wants to be on the east coast. Granted, he did say he was going to retire after this contract

We've all heard that before.

However, in the case of Morton, reportedly he was surprised at how much money the Astros offered him when he heard "2 years at $8million." apparently he assumed it was $8mill total for the two years, not for each year. So he might be more than happy with his earnings and simply go home.

I certainly would not blame him for not signing with a team in as much flux as the current Red Sox...

Morton's K rate plummeted this year and his HR allowed rate is his highest in 10 years. His FB velocity is 3 mph lower than it was 2 years ago. Morton is trending towards done
